StuffedIn what is essentially the first thing I've ever created with a video camera, here is my freshman attempt at creating a film. I had a tripod and a crappy JVC mini-DV cam. I filmed it all by myself in my room, and edited it the next day in an hour. This has got to be at least 4 years old, now. Submitted by aedmark on April 29, 2007 - 5:51pm. |

my "toy camera" is a JVC
I thought the actors were good. The bear especially...or his stunt double. Whichever one it was taking those slams to the floor.
Listen, I have a crappy JVC. What would you suggest as a move up? Not too many dollars now. Just a little bitty move.
Jackie
Well how many dollars are we
Well how many dollars are we talking?
How many $$$$?
I don't know Andrew. I just know that I am going to need another camera to make the kind of films I see in my head.
Also, I want to do some animation. I am truly inspired by "Driving Down Memory Lane". My movie "More At Grace" has so many characters, it would be a good thing to work it animated with voice--over.
So back to the cost of a camera...Just give me an idea of where I should go to next from my "crappy JVC"...and what you think that next step should cost me. Whatever it cost (trust me) I will have to save up for.
That bear...
went on to live a long life as the personal pet of Chucky :)
That was a fun film :)

I plan to live forever. So far, so good!
Well if you're REALLY
Well if you're REALLY serious about this, and are devoted to saving your pennies, I would totally shell out the bucks for the Canon HV20. It's a consumer grade camera but shoots in 24p, widescreen, and HD. The only reason I'm not getting it is because I don't want to deal with HD right now and I really would like XLR inputs. But if you get serious enough with the HV20, there are adaptors you can get to allow the use of XLR.
Anyway, check out the Canon HV20... I've seen some AWESOME footage come out of that little thing. It's a grand, though, so you'll have to save the $$$.
I myself am getting the DVX100B in a few weeks, for a job I was contracted to do.. So that means I get the camera for free, essentially. I'm SO excited.
Canon HV20
Thank you for the info Andrew. This is very exciting...but what is MOST exciting is your news. A JOB! A NEW CAMERA (DVX100B)! (like I know what a DVX100B is) But YOU do, and that's all that matters.
The best to you
Jackie
