Internal Memo to all of KarmaCritic.com***This is a reply to Marco's post: "KarmaCritic Public Enemy".*** Internal Memo: All KarmaKritters* I think Hollywood has been the elite for so long...they like the power they wield. OTL isn't about giving filmmakers a chance at "living the dream". It's about ratings, like any TV show, and it's masked in the charity of "helping a colleague out." I use the word "colleague" very loosely as they (Hollywood) does not see us as such, for we are truly inferior to their awesome power. They are the ones who know what they are doing, and we're just a group of kids running around with our silly cameras, recording our silly friends do silly things. We couldn't possibly understand the sophisticated refinement of the classical art of such films as "Dude, Where's My Car?" or "Dumb and Dumber". And the irony of it all is that this cultural elite was born from a group of rebels like us, trying to escape the gagging of an individual named Thomas Edison. Even though our dear Edison gets all the credit for the invention of filmmaking...he is not deserving of that credit. Two brothers from France are the inventors of a device that lead us to our modern day industry. The Lumiere Brothers came up with the moving projector before Edison. (Although, Max and Emil Skladanowsky made their Bioskope one month before Auguste and Louis Lumiere.) But, I digressed, back to Edison. The story goes that many people were being persecuted and possibly even murdered by Edison's henchmen. So they escaped to California to make their own way. Edison tried to follow, but his power had been broken. He lost, and Hollywood California was born. Now, fast forward to April 20th, 2007. As Marco has pointed out, this was OTL's day of reckoning. The gagging had begun all over again. True, this isn't the first time Hollywood has shunned filmmakers. After all, Nepotism reigns freely in the Hallowed Halls of Hollywood. As well as Ageism, and what I call "Unionism", and "PHd-ism". These special requirements such as being members of unions or having special "degrees" like A.S.C are means of control to keep themselves in, and everyone else out! So, yes, while this went on before April 20th, 2007 and will continue until their is a shift in power, their will be an uprising. This uprising, "The New Hollywood", led by us KarmaKritters, can bring filmmakers back to the very foundations and principles that Hollywood was founded on. The trick is: we must not fall into the same trap. For when power and strength come, temptation to create a new "elite" is born anew. So, what Strategic Planning can we, as KarmaKritters, develop in order to prevent this travesty from repeating itself? While not about movies, or media specifically, I reccomend all KarmaKritters read the book Blindsided by Jim Harris. We must figure out two things:
We can do this. Let's figure out our "Party's Platform", our corporate "Business Plan", our "Strategic 'Battle' Plans"...whatever we want to call it. I challenge everyone to read the book I mentioned above, and let's discuss this. Maybe we can then combine to write our own book about this new social movement and what we hope to acheive. We can then publish it and lead others to the cause. There is strength in numbers, and one lesson Hollywood has taught us...Conglomerates. Instead of hostile takesovers though, we are developing Synergy. We must combine our efforts. We cannot go it alone, and we must not ever give in to the temptation to take over each other. So, there it is. My internal memorandum. Let's do this. Who's with me???? Eric Bumpus *Note: The term KarmaKritters is a variation on a term coined by Dan Gadberry; "KarmaCritters".

This is wonderful Eric. I am so honored to be here for this. I'll read the book. I'll follow your blogs. Let's do this.
Like a Stallion...
This is it.
Eric, this post, and the one by Jesse a little while ago.... you guys somehow managed to put into words things that arent always very easy to put into words. But you can tell they're right because you feel it.
I guess thats why the world needs writers.
And we'll have to become writers, and explain why the world needs KarmaCritic.
I completely agree with everything so far. I will try to add some tools to the site here so that we can all collaborate in creating a book. Creating a book is what we call in the corporate lingo a SMART goal. Specific, Measurable, Aligned, Realistic and Time-bound. Something we can all contribute to, and in the process, it would help define us, give us a solid plan.
And the book sells and more people come... and a positive cycle is made.
This is definitely something we should do.
I'm in the office right now, but as soon as I get back home, I'll get started on the book module. I also have the classifieds and resources modules pending, but the weekend is almost here! :)
We'll do this. We'll soooo do this.
P.S. Love KarmaKritters and KarmaCritters both :) I think I like KarmaCritters best because it uses KC instead of KK, but whatever :)
Man, reading this.. ... makes me feel ... brr.. like I want to do stuff!! Energy! all that good stuff!
Man, I'm bookmarking this blog entry, I know I'll come back to it many times.
Also, I'm definitely going to read that Jim Harris book. I usually buy books in ebay, I'll start bidding.
Oh, and title? .. hmm... how about "KarmaCritic: Indie Filmmakers on a road to Stick It to the Man" I dont know.. I'm half serious.
Btw..... (I just cant wrap it up, cant I? its what happens when I'm pumped) I've read some about the story of Edison and Tesla. Edison was the father of Corporate Greed, apparently. Tesla was a true genius. He wanted wireless power for homes, wireless communications, free energy.... Edison wanted greenbacks. .. and played rough. I could speak of this forever... its 6:15, I gotta run home. Will continue!

I looked through the excerpts online, I can hardly wait to get my copy. It was interesting reading the statistics about the amount of time it took RADIO to reach millions of people (20 years) as oppose to the INTERNET (12 months).
I protested the www for many years. I felt that it was evil. How foolish was I?
How else would brilliance such as we are witnessing here come together? Surely you and I would have never met Eric. And I am so greatly to have the opportunity to share ideas and conversation with you.

We've gotz bookses!
Sir, this post explains a lot: http://www.karmacritic.com/?q=node/5...
We now have the capability to write a book, together, as a community. As our editor, you can review and edit our work, organize it, manage revisions, and of course, add content yourself! Like Sol said, Lead on Captain :) I may run the KC ship, but you run the KC Book project now :) Tell me how can I help and I will!
p-p-p-ppp-p-pumped!
Forum's done
Its done sir! :) The forum is shiny brand new, you may post a topic to it anytime, we'll jump in :)
I'm still waiting for my book copy from ebay...
My ship date for "Blindsided" isn't until May 9th...
