Wonderful Design
great job
with variations on a theme design
perfect
Simplicity
Thanks Victor!
It was actually hard for me to let go and just use something this simple... usually I do things a lot more complex, but .. there was some grace in just the four clapboards alone. The original design was a stack of papers with a "thought balloon" (like in the comic books) that had four cameras inside it, each of them with a "speech balloon" with different texture and color that combined to form an area for the title. It was too much :)
Marco, You Are one Darn good Graphic Designer!!!
This is a great design. It'll be perfect for all materials regarding this project...although I'm sure we'll have a few "variations" of the overall theme. ;) HAHA
I'm working on my script outline/treatment. I must say I'm happy with my story line and premise...I'm just not sure how well I'll do at putting it in to a fleashed out script...but it's in progress.
I gotta admit too that when reading John's script...first line about Frankie being 13 and the son of Frankenstein, I reacted with: "OH NO!" That's because my story is about a teenage descendant of Dr. Frankenstein. haha. But, I realize John made Frankenstein refer to the monster, not the scientist. Mine refers back to the scientist aspect, but it's got an interesting take/twist on the Mary Shelly vision. Anyway, that's all I'll say for now.
Eric
Thankee much!
Thanks man! I feel a bit validated that minimalistic thing looks good, its reassuring :)
Your story has me intrigued! A descendant of Dr. Frankenstein.... hmmm....!!! Cant wait to see it.. I was planning to post mine today, but... things conspired, as they usually do.......... anytime now! muaha! :)
LOL Eric!
MEME, I guess, as Marco posted on another thread.
Ironically, I had a story line that involved one of the parents in my script being the actual "real" werewolf that "starred" in the film American Werewolf in London, but Victor mentioned that film as an idea in another thread, so I had to "can it."
By the way Eric, as our resident para-legal, is "Frankenstein" in the public domain? I know "parody" is defensable.
Yes, Marco, the four slates look great as a logo, I think its your best one yet.

I'm not sure...
I'm not sure. I did look on Wikipedia and Mary Shelley's book was published in the early 1800s. It's possible, but I doubt it. Here is the Wiki entry for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franken...
Anything we do here would be considered "parody", but it is a good question. You have soooo many movies based on the story/characters, so I don't think it'll be a problem. I'm definitely no para-legal, but I've had some experience with certain forms/paperwork.
I actually recommended Marco check with a legal consultant on some of the "banking" side of things, for when we sell this.
As far as I know the name
As far as I know the name and story of "Frankenstein" is public domain...however the exact Universal image of Frankie is owned by them. I seem to remember while watching the Monster Squad DVD that they talked about having to tweak all the monsters slightly so as not to infringe on Universal's likenesses.
Brainstorming
I'm thinking of basing mine on either The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari or White Zombie. I just need to come up with ways now on how to make one of those films seem funny.
Eric and OM
Thanks for the info!

Make frank blue... get
No
Come on Brad, make him blue?
Bummer.

just a thought..... frank
just a thought..... frank before he BECOMES Frank... evolution of a monster... you could have issues with him because Universal owns the rights to the likeness of frank even if he is a kid. Maybe not blue, but you know what I mean.
I really don't' think the
I really don't' think the likeness thing is an issue. As long as he doesn't look exactly like the classic Universal Frankenstein. Look at Frank in Monster Squad or Hermann Munster. Both are obviously Frankenstein without infringing on Universal's property. It doesn't take much.
And you know...I don't think we ever really saw Universal's Frankenstein in color...who's to say he WAS green? I think that came later...
Putting the Cart before the Horse Manure
Maybe the design of the park bench that Vinnie is sitting on is copyrighted too.
I'm scared!!! What do I do?
Kaufman and Broad designed the "suburban home" oh no!! Maybe it should be a tent?
Yes, that's it. We will make it about pilgrims that are camping, hold on, who invented the hat with the belt buckle on it?
As for the milk? Don't the "Got Milk" people have the rights to milk?
Wait, doesn't Maybeline have the rights to red lips?
Does Rowling have the rights to big books with spells?
Is filmmaking still legal?
LOL!
I am being facetious, but if I cannot make/write a film where the father is green faced with bolts coming out of his neck and he is talking to son who resembles him, then....!!??
What kind of film can anyone make?
The POINT is they are MONSTERS and I would be glad to MAKE UP a new monster if I have to ;)
When you sell stuff you need to be aware of copryrights, but if my monster has to be blue, FORGET IT!!
He is green dagnabit!!!
HEAR ME? GREEN? G.R.E.E.N. !!
Move the bolts to his ears, his temples, HE HAS BOLTS, Frankie EATS CEREAL!!
And....ACTION!!
;)

I was trying to help. don't
I was trying to help. don't ask for people opions of help if thats the way your going to act, I am not being "fectious". I have been suid for a lot less by smaller film comp for infrindging on property. Good luck.
Ouch, in those movie you mnetioned they were not called frank too. In Johns they are named frank, what else is anyone else to think.
Actually he is called
Actually, in Monster Squad, he is called Frankenstein. And Wolfman is Wolfman and Dracula is Dracula. Universal doesn't own the name, just the exact likeness.
Good work
OuchMouth,
Universal has a copyright on their version of Frankenstein, so we can just change it a bit. Below is Freak N. Stein.
I could also call them Frank and Frankie but the word "Frankenstein" seems okay.
This also may fall under parody, we can make them look totally ridiculos like Herman Munster, but as long as they don't look like/resemble the thrid picture here we are okay.
Or, Frankenson and Frankendad? and have them wear black thick rimmed round spectacles like Al Franken and keep them human-ish? The possiblities are endless.

Okay...
This is just a rough draft, whomever directs it, if that ever happens, can make the choices.
We can make up a new monster if have to.
Wait does Romero own the "Zombie"? ;) It never ends.
The final decision is the distributor of the DVD. If there are too many questions, you re-write prior to shooting.
There are actually companies that read and certify scripts, and give what is called "script clearance." Some e+o companies want clearance prior to providing insurance that some distributors require for distribution.
The realilty this is too complicated an issue to discuss on a chat board and none of us are copyright or entertainment lawyers, so none of us really know from experience what the correct answer is.
No amount of preparation can prevent all lawsuits.
