Very fun!!
This is truly a black comedy!
I really liked it! I can tell ... that it was written by an insider though.. I remember your film about making a dummy out of duct tape for instance... you seem, shall we say, familiar with the process of making heads and other props :)
I loved your script. It was funny, well paced, good ideas, ... if you get really good actors who talk all over eachother and dont wait their turn.. you'll have the truest image of a movie set I've seen in script form! :)
Now, others will be stricter than me on this, but if I were you, I'd fix this script to the format standards. You know, Courier font, 12 points, indents of 2.75 inches for dialogs, etc. As far as I understand, the reason people are anal about this is that empirically, this font size and indents more or less translate to about one page per minute of screen time. Also, I dont think you need the "CUT TO"s and although I've seen the CONTs both in the name and as a parenthetical below the name, I've never seen parentheticals describing entire action, or not being in their own line (unless they're one word, like when I cheat with "BANG!" and "SLAM!", etc). If you format this right, it'll turn up to be like 17 pages I think.
Anyway, dont pay too much attention to my formatting nitpicks, what's important is how well you developed the story, paced it, wrapped it up at the end, gave us good laughs, etc!
GREAT work! :)
Working on that now.
Yeah, I was really trying to squeeze it into the 13 page limit. I'm pretty sure I can do it in 13 minutes but didn't want to go over the page count. I'll see what I can do to get it to work right. Glad you enjoyed it though! I based all the characters on people I work with. People who also act so I think they would have a lot of fun with it.
Formating
Haven't read it yet ( I will, I promise) but formatting and pica size are important.
I say write the script the sze it has to be, if it is too big, too bad. If it is good, well, page counts are just a suggestion. After all, someone once told me in the script for Gone With The Wind it says "And Atlanta Burns", which takes about 5 minutes of screen time.

Funny Stuff!
Christine! This is really entertaining! I love its tone and pacing. I love what it says about movie biz people too... good stuff.
As for the VOAT page limits... I'm thinking there should be some flexibility there, especially if a story works well at its current length. So yeah... what Steven said.
Love it
Horro, Comedy, without being spoof.
Great, really great, funny. Can't wait to see it.

Insider
Love the script.
It's great fun that is fast paced with realistic dialogue from an "insider" point of view.

Cool!
Thanks you guys. I'm glad you're all enjoying it! I've uploaded a new version with corrected format. It's too long. Hopefully that won't disqualify me.
Marco, is it possible to submit it as is or does it absolutely, positively, have to be 13 or less?
A good story is a good story!
It'd be wrong in many ways to disqualify such great story over something like this. We can always say that the goal is to keep the short film under 13 minutes, regardless of page count. You did a great job, and you're In like Flint! :)
There is an old saying
There is an old saying I subscribe to, I taught it to my students.
Learn the rules, then learn when to break them.
This whole discussion about length has made me want to write a script, where at the very moment of creshendo, the film stops because it was too long.
I understand the purpose of the $250 dollar cap (now since removed), but most of the scripts weren't written with that cap in mind.
13 pages/13 minutes - well, it is hard to make a short film that long, and keep it interesting. Especially if you are watching 7 to 10 versions of it.
If the judger/voters/whomever choose to hold that against the script and not vote for it because of it's length, so what. If it is a better script/film at 15 minutes or more (haven't looked at the new draft yet) than at 13 minutes. Make the better script/film. Submit it, and live with the results. My other saying is better to make the film you want and not hold back, 'cause if you hold back and it is great you will always wonder if it would have been better, and if you fail you will never forgive yourself. If you make the film you want and you fail, then at least you know.
Funny thing, I was just watching "Man in the Moon" story of someone who didn't hold back. His comedy was brilliant, but not always funny.

Content Hasn't Changed
So don't worry about re-reading it. I just changed the formatting to the standard font, size, etc so that made it longer.
Trouble with Length
David Gerrold, Whose big break came with his writing "The Trouble with Tribbles", wrote a book about the episode. It is a pretty interesting read, covering the whole practice of submitting scripts (back in the '60s) and finding an agent. He also talks about how he wrote in the wrong typeface and pica size, and the havoc it played on a script that had to fit specific requirements for Television.

Thank you, thank you!
Amazing

I hope you are in the contest
I bet for flexibility in the rules
Funny take on no-budget filmmaking
This obviously came from someone who's worked on low budget movies. The characters could be real people I've known...sorry to say!
And the premise is not as crazy as you might think...I've seen people do some insane things in the name of special effects!
Okay Atragon
AKA Bill. By people you've know we are talking about you right. And by crazy things in the name of special effects we would be talking about the poor little bunny rabbit you had murdered for our movie The Forever Dead. The poor little bunny that you kept in your freezer for nearly a year so we could thaw it out and use it for varous scenes. You are also the guy who has let it be known that if you die we should get your head so you can continue to act in all our movies. So when we do this movie and you play "Bill" I don't think you'll have to dig too deep for this character! ;-)
Thanks for giving me so much inspiration! You are awesome!
Oh No Atragon
Atragon, the Atragon, the Japanese Submarine, that the aliens who came to earth insited be destroyed by earthlings, because it was the only thing the aliens feared?
Logic question. If the Aliens have technology far superior to earth technology, and they can't destroy Atragon, how do they expect the backward earthlings to do it?
I must have been what 8 or 10 years old when Atragon popped up on T.V.?
Whiz bang, I want 100 Karma points for the obscure japanese "Monster" movie mention.

Inhabitants of Mu not very bright
It's worse than you remember; the idiot inhabitants of the Undersea Empire of Mu attack Tokyoand demand that they get rid of Undersea Warship Atragon, which comes as an enormous surprise to everyone since they were totally unaware that there WAS an Undersea Warship Atragon. Thus alerted, they track down Undersea Warship Atragon and proceed to kick the Kingdom of Mu's ass.
Idiots.
And don't get me started on the morons in Seatopia. Underwater denizens are fundamentally stupid--that's why they live underwater!
That's it
Oh my goodness, that's right.
That is how it went. It is a Greek Tragedy, where those trying to avoid their fate, cause it to happen.
I've got to organize a "Trashy" film night.
Finally, other people who have watched these films.

The overall idea is pretty
The overall idea is pretty cute...the characters are fun....the dialog works and there's some trully funny lines and exchanges in the script.
However I didn't find myself suprised once. I saw each plot turn coming a page or two before. Right from the title I knew what was going to happen in the end. Maybe it's just because I've seen to many horror movies and dark comedies...but it did play a bit flat to me. Just my thoughts, sorry.
Is that really how they take plaster masks off...with a drill?? Or is Bill just a horribly amatuer effects guy?
It's definitely fictional
No you wouldn't take of the plaster with a drill. And really you wouldn't use plaster. Alginate would usually be the medium of choice for making molds. This guy is a total fuckup. That's where the humor is supposed to come in. Good lord if Bill ever really pulled a drill out to take a mask off I'd have him committed!!!
