Trailer Review: The Incredible HulkYear Released: 2008 Making a movie trailer is such a fine craft just comparable to making the movie itself. But the trailer is like a sniper's shot: it must be extremely precise, directed to awake the interest on the film it's promoting and raise up the expectatives on the public. I think it would be nice to make trailer reviews because they're such an important tool for movie bussines in our time, that sometimes they are better than the movie they're promoting. But I hope this is not the case for THE INCREDIBLE HULK
If you saw Ang Lee's Hulk, you surely hate it. It was a really boring movie, despiting the aspect aparently the screenwriter never readed a single comic of The Hulk before (yeah, I'm a fanboy, what can I do?): it was if like Ang Lee was trying to mix the drama of a soup opera into a big budget comicbook film!. A total failure, I got surprised wen they anounced a second part, it was like ' woah! this producers never learn their lesson huh?'... but aparently they did. ED NORTON DID! Having Edward Norton in the project not only as the main role but as producer called inmediatly my attemption. Normally you hear from directors, actors and producers they're BIG HUGE FANS of the comicbook wich the movie they're making is based. Some of them are genuine, like Guillermo del Toro or Sam Raimi, and I think Norton will fit on this categorie too.
The first thing we see on the trailer it's a scene betwen Banner and a friend, maybe a psycologist, and he is trying to talk about his wellknown problem of being the alter ego of the Hulk. Excellent! THIS IS BRUCE BANNER! a man tormented by the monster inside him; then we jump to some fast shots of Banner's experiments with gamma rays, wich remembers a lot to the TV series with Bill Bixby. Another point to Norton! he is trying to follow a well known source for the mainstream public of the Hulk mythos: the original TV series! Banner chased by the US goverment, trying to find a cure, his chat with Betty Ross about hating being the Hulk... this is a counter point with the trailer of Ang Lee's Hulk, were Banner (Eric Banna then) was talking voice over in front of a mirror about the monster inside him and in the end he says the line "... but I'm loving it!" huh? Then, the antagonist. We saw this guy, Emil Blonsky, being transformed into the Abomination, a famous Hulk's foe with the same strenght and power. Many fanboys already complained why the CGI Abomination doesn't have the elfling ears like in the comic book but shit! it looks great! And talking about CGI, this is another point scored for the film: the CGI Hulk looks a way lot better than the horrible work on the previous film. This model seems to be based on Sal Buscema's art, a famous drawer of the series in the 80s, the face of the character looks more sharp and agressive in difference to the past film, were they tried to make Hulk's face look like Eric Banna. In a nutshell: the trailer promises to correct all the mistakes of Ang Lee. Basing the film on the TV series and the comics it's a very smart move that will produce more empathy with the audience. They have a AAA cast too, maybe repeating the formula of Batman Begins? anyway Norton is a great actor and I'm sure he will do a great Bruce Banner. They got my ticket! :)

Bee Movie and Soup Opera
Good review!
I mostly agree. In the radio show yesterday, Robert Lawrence confirmed that the major studios (except for their Art House division) are only looking for "tentpole" movies these days, "event movies", and usually that means expanding on an established brand, be it comic books, tv, books, or previous movies. So I think that's the reason there is another Hulk so soon after Ang Lee's epic fail. But whenever you take an existing brand, I think you have to be very careful to respect it, to love it, to be a fan of it, and dont try to remake it but just improve it very reverently. Thats the difference I think, between HELLBOY and BATMAN AND ROBIN... I mean, look at Batman and Robin, amazing cast of George Clooney, Alicia Silverstone, Swarzenegger even... they threw everything in the pot, and what did they get. They didn't let Clooney be Batman, but man, Ron Pearlman WAS HELLBOY, every square inch of it.
Now, you know what would be nice for a change? A "tentpole" movie based entirely on original characters and story. Could never happen in a million years? Hehe.. . we'll see :)
It happened with the Matrix
It happened with the Matrix and the Pirates of the Caribean, I'll bet my ass against Chuck Norris' it will happen again ;)
