My Worst CriticI just wanted to share with you guys the worst review I've ever gotten for my first feature The Forever Dead. I have to admire the amount of work that went into this. The person took the time to get screen captures, put in video clips from the movie and made some pretty valid points as well as a few completely erroneous and assanine ones. It's fun for a laugh though. Check it out.

You know, everything I make
You know, everything I make tends to get a lot of criticism. Especially since I'm more of a beginner than anyone else is here. I try to listen to all of it in order to improve the production quality of my future projects but I still have hopes to make something where my lighting or camera work is not criticised so much.
Since most people don't have the attention span for watching micro-budgeted movies, all that there is to do is really push yourself to make the production look more than what it really is.
By the way, I've seen Forever Dead on the shelves on FYI. I think this week I'll finally get around to picking it up since I had an extra day off from work.
Like I said
Don't forget to pick up a case of beer before you watch it. Do they have more than one copy on the shelf? They told us they would put just one copy in the stores outside of NC.
I honestly don't mind valid criticism. I'm pretty new to this myself, and I can definitely say I know there are a lot of flaws in The Forever Dead. Live and learn and move on.
Yeah, just one copy.
Yeah, just one copy.
YO
Fuck critics! I think I'm gonna go get a copy of it, hook up with the Turzman, Anna Ward, get slammed drunk and watch your film!
Here is why I hate critics. Cause they remind me of an ugly girl talking shit about a hot chick and searching for the flaws so that they sound smart and attractive.
I'm not really a critic. I give props to anyone who goes out and does something.
And I give a lot of props to hot girls for being hot!
EZEQUIEL
Whoa!
That reviewer really took a lot of time with that.
Christine, what goes through your mind when reading that type of criticism?
Plus, does the review have the right to post all those clips and photos?
Insane laughter
I realize that this is the sort of person that would just love me to respond so they can start something. The best thing to do is ignore trolls like these. No they don't have the right to post photos or clips and it does violate our copyright. But...the same goes for those thousands of torrents out there. This person is not worth the trouble.
LADY PARKER IS RIGHT~~AND I THINK~~
I have been in the minor leagues of the public eye, and I have just as many fans as I have haters. I love my fans. And I love my haters also. Fans say "I love your work" Haters say "he sucks" but they say it over and over and over and it keeps me talked about. So I thank them for my popularity. My agent calls it "free press". cool shit. motherfuckers that arent' doin' shit can talk about me all they want. At least they're talking about me. Love it! And I rock anyway, so it doesn't bother me to hear haters hate.
And like I've expressed before, I LOVE CAPTAIN LADY PARKER! She has class. Ambition. And just goes out does her thing. Something some of you motherfuckers should be doing. If I lived near the Captain, I'd probably take her out for a drink.
If I lived near John Meredith, I'd slap him over the head with a 101 book on how to make movies. haha
EZEQUIEL
Thank you
Captain Ezequiel! You can buy me that drink when I come to your premier! ;-)
CAPTAIN PARKER
Fuck it. I'd buy a few drinks. Probably invite you to the Captain's quarters! haha
BIG HUG! Keep rockin' it!
EZEQUIEL
I ask one favor...
E, if you plan on slapping me with a book, please allow me to buy you a new copy, and not the worn out one (who knows where its been) you have been hitting yourself with over the last 13 years ;)
Go make a movie, it's been a long time...oh...and You Tube does not count.
blah.
haha.
I ASK FOR ANOTHER FAVOR
Meredith, please do not make--I REPEAT--please do not make Lure part 2. I beg you. PLEASE DON'T! haha
You're the one going to cheap ass film festivals. I'm the one taking meetings with the VP of Disney Studios.
Fuck with that.
And just for everyone else that is reading this. I'm not an asshole. I'm a REAL asshole. hahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I love all you motherfuckers!
EZEQUIEL
For What It's Worth
Gotta remember too that horror films, by and large, aren't critical
fucking darlings. If you're looking for two tumbs way up, a
zombie movie ain't the greatest place to start. That said, no
other genre on the planet inspires the rabid fandom overall like horror
films. I've gotten into fistfights over horror flicks. Ever
see any of those stodgy fuckers at The English Patient get all
outta line and shit? I didn't fuckin' think so. You want to
know if you made a good horror film? Ask the fans.
Also, as a sidebar just to let you know what cocksuckers critics
are, Gene Siskel gave out Sean Cunninghams' home address and encouraged
people to flood him with hate mail. For making Friday the Thirteenth. I'm sorry he's dead, but fuck that. Siskel, not Cunningham.
If it's just ridiculous, it's bad.
IF IT IS RRIIIDDDIICCUUULLOOUUSS, then it's okay.
Exactly!
You're just asking for it when you make a zombie flick especially if you don't follow all the rules. I fully intended to piss a few people off but at the same time I also got a lot of fans and lucky me I have my movie on the shelves so I realy don't give a damn what those critics have to say about it.
Have either of you guys seen
Have either of you guys seen the movie Inside? It just came out on DVD recently and its one of the most beautifully gorey movies I've seen as of recently. Nothing better than watching a pregnant woman being pursued by a maniac with a pair of scissors. Too bad Juno wasn't as gorey.
Ha...wow! You do have to
Ha...wow! You do have to give it to the guy...he took a lot of time on this. And has some funny quips. INterestingly enough, he actually made me want to watch it, though! :) I'll have to check it out next time I'm at FYI.
It is funny...
isn't it? Especially at the point when he says he began to think I hated him. Really he does make it sound like campy fun. I hope more people have the same response to it that you had and just go buy it, or download it.
I promoted this post...
Not because I agree with the "critic" in the slightest, but because I love the way Cpparker takes this, and how she reacts. Its a role model for anyone who deals with critics. That said, it was fun read :)
Leadbelly
By the by, would you like me to hunt down this little shit and kick
his fucking ass for you? I've got a pair of broughans that could use a
good breaking-in, and that fucker sounds like a great place to
start.
If it's just ridiculous, it's bad.
IF IT IS RRIIIDDDIICCUUULLOOUUSS, then it's okay.
Criticism is better than nothing
I have only read it halfway but it is amazing the person found time. The person has some valid points. He may be the worst critic but if he made you think what to do in your next movie (meaning, improvements) then it will be good for you. I hope I can watch your work one day.
It is my first time to watch something here. I watched the Lure last night. I do not have time like the other guy had, but, the element of spark and attachment to the characters are missing. I do not know if my monitor was shaking but some of the scenes are shaking. There is somehow a continuity of the story but it was not delivered well. The last scene made me feel like "What?" because, why would a piece of cow's meat be shown when it could have just been the cook just chopping and you do not see what he is chopping or anything more than meets the eye. This prompted me to look for images of a human meat. Another thing, the thing on the guy's side neck is making me think. He was hit on this part and I think, blood can really flow fast in this part of the body. His shirt was still good as new in the next scene. As for the actors, they need to emote more especially the two women.
Am sorry to say something like this about the work of another person but I think, the next work must be done way, way past than this. There are countless people wanting to make a break and in order to get in, one must really make it that good.
I agree
It's definitely the most scathing review I've gotten and while he does make some valid points in other ways the person just doesn't get that this movie isn't meant to be taken seriously and that it's meant to be good campy fun. Something you can watch with a few friends and a few beers and laugh at. If they had lightened up I'm sure that they would have enjoyed it a lot more. But yes, I definitely learned a lot in the making of that movie as I do with every movie I make. Each one I hope gets better and better.
You should post your Lure review on the Lure post. I'm sure John would appreciate your honest opinion. You made a lot of really good points.
