1st half of Getting a Head in the Movie BizWell I hope this works. I had to upload it to my own site because Revver is down, Metacafe won't take it because of copyright infringement (?), and it's too long for YouTube. Let me know what you guys think. I'll have the second half done next weekend but wanted to get some input from you guys on this. I know I need to make some color adjustments in a couple of places too. If the url doesn't work you can go to it here: http://www.fistfulofbrains.com/1stha... I'll get it up on Revver as soon as they get it back up. My role(s) in this film: Director Writer Producer Cinematographer Editor Submitted by cpparker on May 4, 2008 - 6:15pm. |

LOL!
Nice work, I guess that drill was too long ;0
Liked the product placement posters of your past movies in the second half.
My guess on copyright infringement is the movie posters, like Godzilla, in the first part.
Godzilla's owners are sueing Subway right now for $150,000 over the "five dollar footlong" commercials that are running because one of the segments has a monster that (looks like or can be mistaken for) Godzilla.
That would be the coolest thing
If they tried to sue me a small no budget independent film maker for that. The publicty would be awesome!!
On the other hand
I did not realize Metacafe was so scrutinous over their vids, but they don't have the Google war fund that protects You Tube.
I think when Google bought You Tube the put aside hundreds of millions of dollars to protect it.
I image quality looked great.
They have some sort of
auto copyright thing so it may just be a goof. I'm trying it on Revver too to see what happens. Thanks John for your comments. I'm glad you liked it.
Not to shabby.
Good stuff Christine! I look forward tothesecond half. The pizza delivery guy was funny. "That happens to me all the time...because I'm a retard" :) And the drill bit(haha, get it?...err...nevermind) was done well.I laughed out loud when the blood hit him. Keep it coming.
Thanks!
I'm glad you liked it and that you actually laughed out loud. It's really hard to guage it when you've been watching it over, and over, and over... That's why I wanted everyone's feedback.
Thank you.
I know what you mean!
I know what you mean! Objectivity is the first thing to go out the window when you start editing.
Some really nice stuff
Nice Gore (I'm missing the gore factor in Hellion.)
Small thing when he is drilling into Tiffany's head over his shoulder shot - the drill is turning backwards.
The Pizza guy is over the top. Must be an L.A. thing.

The drill is going backwards
Oh, so you're one of those guys are you? ;-)
What Guys?
Like the pizza delivery guy? No, not at all. I do notice that car wheels seem to be spining backwards most times in movies. That has to do the speed of rotation of the tire, the hub cap design and the shutter speed/exposure time.
The drill is going backwards, which does happen, but usually drill bits are not as effective when that happens.
It is a little picky - :-)

Honestly
It just adds to the character who is supposed to completely incompetent anyway. Makes sense that he'd have to put a bit more pressure on if the drill bit is going the wrong way. So, yeah, we meant to do that. ;-)
Parker,
I'm seeing some big improvements from you as a director just from watching this short! I really think you should do more short films like these. It's also definetly fun to see the same actors from your previous projects in completely different roles.
Also, the blood squirt at the end when he kills her is funny as hell! Ha ha!
Brendan
Thanks! Short films are a lot of fun but I have a hard time making short films because I want to tell more of the story. If this short is well recieved I think we may make it a feature.
The guys had a great time doing this and I think it shows. I honestly think this is the best perfomances I've gotten out of them yet. And the pizza guy really is a PA.
look forward to part two
