What a night
Man that guy Gladstone. Just would not stop with the Indy Jones thing. Wrong structure, not a post apocalyptic hero. Then even daring to think Daniel Craig made a good James Bond.
Sheeshhhhhh man, Let it Go.

Lovely singing by Rachel Lynn.

I liked Daniel Craig as Bond!!
Now, if it had been Freddy Prinze Jr as Bond's son, Runt Smith, I'd probably be more skeptic :)
Daddy;s little boy
I think Shia is good, and even played different than he usually does in the Indy movie - Strong - becoming sensitive as opposed to geekish becoming confident.
However, he won't be Indy. I mean he didn't even get the hat at the end.

The Hat
Of course he did not get the hat; at best he has to earn it by adventuring with Indy in more films. But ... maybe he never will. They've already established Mutt as a different character, as opposed to trying to create a younger version of Indy like the attempted with River Phoenix. It looks like Mutt's signature items wil be his pocket comb and switchblade as opposed to fedora and whip.

Mr. Gladstone, post your pre-edit of Hellion.
I loved the show, the only problem is that we did not talk about E enough.

Mr. Gladstone, post your pre-edit of Hellion.

During the show...
the site had over 1000 users.
That is great, is it accurate?
This is 2.5 times the users at OTL before the networks put the show in TV.
I remember when OTL started there were about 400 people tops, then it jumped when the show started (or the pre-American Idol tv ads ran).
Speaking of OTL Phil Hudson completed a feature by the Golden Compass writer, Marco mentioned it on the show today, based on "His Dark Materials."
I remember E had his run-ins with him. His logo was "PHILM" in a black rectangle with a white stripe.
THE SITE IS GROWING
And we've been working really hard. How we got these many numbers, who knows? maybe it has to do with are growing radio audience. And don't forget I was in the paper. And we've all, as a community been driving this site to some heights!
EZEQUIEL
Numbers
I dont know what happened with the numbers yesterday, today we're back to our usual below-hundred. I have to think it was a bug of some sort, but I went over the code today and there's really nothing wrong with it. Unless it was on the server side, in which case I've no way of verifying. There are other indicators, for example our bandwidth usage. That was through the roof yesterday. But still, if we had really had 1000 people walking our hallowed ground at the same time, it would have been much more and the site would have slowed down to a crawl. So i don't know. Its a mystery. I'm not sure, but it looked cool for a while.

THE SHOW
Since our bastard movie talk is becoming very popular and still on the front page of blogtalk radio. We are going to revamp the show now. We're not your usual movie talk show. We talk about movies the way you, really talk about movies.
So we're pressing for more edge. We're changing it. Guests and panels will still be there for sure. We will continute to have guests that rising stars and industry professionals, but we're giving it more of an attitude. Marco, Big Sugar and myself have some plans for this that hopefully makes us the highest rated online talk show about movies---and our sunday show needs a goal---syndication.
And the way people describe our crazy ass show is--"the howard stern of movie talk"
I like that.
Rock it like a rocket!
EZEQUIEL
Have you guys
thought about putting it on iTunes. You'd get a whole ton more listeners and subscribers that way.
My numbers picked up a lot when I put my podcast on there and I know other blog talk radio shows have their stuff on there.
iTUNES
Great suggestion. Marco? You listenin'?
EZEQUIEL
I hate Itunes! .... and yet..
and yet, I must heed the business angle of this proposal. This could be good in many ways!
I need to consult with my technical producer! Eric, what say you?
iTunes / Syndication / RevShare
iTunes should work. I'll look in to setting it up. BTR has information on the site, from what I remember while looking through stuff for the show I'm starting in 2 weeks.
It doesn't seem difficult. I think getting signed up for the RevShare program is a good idea too. They'll be putting ads in to the show at some point anyway...might as well benefit from it, instead of not. Especially when the program is currently free (I've no idea if they will charge for it in the future or not.)
As for syndication...that's a bit tricky. In my email exchanges with BTR, they don't want us "selling" the shows without their permission. I would guess that syndication would fall under this, but its worth asking about, if someone here has somenoe they can maybe take the show to. But you'd definitely want to check with BTR first.
I'll look in to the iTunes bit, as I think I have an account to link the stuff to them. The rest I leave to whomever has the contacts / know how to make happen. I know that people can currently subscribe through the iTunes RSS for our show. We just aren't listed there yet. I'll go make that happen.
Another thing
Don't know if this is still the case but I know Jonathan Moody's Blog talk radio show often goes on for two hours or more. It's only broadcast for an hour but it keeps recording the show as long as you're on. Might be a good incentive for people to subscribe to the broadcast and tune in thru iTunes to see what they're missing.
Tis' done, however...
It could take up to 1 week for the listings to show up.
Also, Apple may review the podcast before actually giving final approval.
Also, in order for the RSS settings to show up properly in iTunes, I had to change the maturity level of the show from Mature to Adults Only on the BTR account. Changes can only be made in the RSS feed itself, not through Apple. And, Apple was showing "clean language" for the level of "mature".
So, I am also going through our archives, and changing the maturity level on all past shows too.
The account is under my email, because of how propriitary iTunes is to the machine it's on, and to the account holder. I also had to put in credit card info, although I'll never be charged unless I buy something. But what I'm getting at, is that the account is in my name, but all the feed links should be set up correctly to do its thing automatically each week. Whatever is entered at BTR, is how Apple will display on their end.
So I think that's it. KC Radio should be listed on iTunes soon.
Awesome, but however!
Please make sure all BTW shows are level "Mature" NOT "Adults Only". If this is a showstopper for Apple, then fuck Apple. If we can work around it, then we'll work around it.
Thanks man! I really appreciate you took this burden off my back, and lets see how things work with Itunes!
One last thing, could you enroll is in BTR's RevShare program too? You've read about it far more than me.
Thanks Producer! :)
Undoing...
Ok, so I'm going to undo March through May, putting them back to Mature.
I can change the default setting back to Mature too. This will set things back to a "G" like rating on Apple's end. As BTR and the RSS feed communicates the Mature setting to Apple as "no offensive language". I don't know if that's a show stopper for Apple, but it certainly isn't accurate of a setting.
I can send out the email on the RevShare, but BTR will probably want to talk to you. I think the first step is sending an email to the marketing or advertising department. I'm not toally sure.
Excellent, sounds good!
Thanks so much, sorry for the double work!
I think people need to come around some sort of standarization about what is "Mature" and what is "Adults Only", but thats a job for Apple, we'll be part of the problem till they feel compelled to bring a solution. Adapting to a lopsided system just subsidizes it. Or something like that. I've been taking too many managerial seminars lately :)
Thanks so much for the RevShare deal, and yes, please feel free to give them my cell number or email.
Much appreciated! :)
All in all, it's just another Brick in the Wall...
It looks like it is an online form.
Program Info:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/RevShar...
This is really something you will have to do, if you're wanting to do it. Because it wants tax info, for W-9 purposes, as well as other business related questions like SS#. Since you "own" KarmaCritic, I can't fill out the form, "under penalties of purgury".
sounds like biz!
Roger that! I'm all over it, thank you man!! :)
You do know that by doing that
We'll have to remove all the adult content not just cussing but stuff like anal bleaching etc. and so on. It does go way beyond "Mature." We would have to face that wherever we market it not just iTunes. I really don't think Adult Content is all that bad, plus we don't have to censor ourselves. Besides they can always go to BlogTalk and download it if iTunes shuts them out.
MY THOUGHTS
If we have to tone down the show and be censored, then I don't want to do that. Part of the appeal of our show is that we talk about movies like bikers at a strip club would.
I vote against that. Big Sugar won't be able to be big sugar if that happens. The "punk rock rant" won't be punk rock.
The beauty of internet radio is that we are able to speak without censhorship.
If we are to push the limits of a show about movies, we cannot resort back to nerd talk and be like every other fucking movie radio show.
We have all the ingredients to keep making this work the way we've been making it work. Crazy ass big sugar, punk rock rant, our host, Eric the straight man, Ezequiel, John Meredith the "question asker" Dan the Man, Turzman, and our cool guests that somehow put up with all of our craziness.
If we have to change our show, then it isn't our show anymore. Unless they start paying some good money for the hour, then maybe I'd consider it. Otherwise, NO.
EZEQUIEL
So, why not just categorize ourselves as "Adult only"??
So why don't we just set it to "adults only", becuase as cpparker says, we go beyond "mature". That way, you get to keep the show as is, and it'll be accurately described on iTunes. It's win-win. Nobody is censoring at BTR or iTunes, just categorizing.
To me, Mature doesn't neccesarily mean vulgar. Vulgar is more towards "adult material". And, we do seem to be beyond "Mature". I don't think iTunes is saying we have to be one or the other, but the "mature" setting at BTR shows up as "language is clean" at Apple. That may even be BTR's definition of Mature. I don't know how iTunes listings work.
Not that I favor it, but why is it bad to list the show as "adult only". iTunes isn't censoring, we just have to define ourselves. I agree with EZ and cpparker. It's just a label.
But, on the other hand too, I'm about to start my own show in a few weeks and will pretty much just be one to call in. It doesn't matter to me what we do, as the torch is really passed on to everyone.
Right!
So my vote is Adults only, keep it like it is and you know I bet a lot more people will be intrigued by that "label"
Offensive as hell
But funny too.
Go with Adults only, as you know what. We are adults. Imagine trying to discuss "Teeth" on a PG level - "Um so this girl has um, teeth growing in her . um, um, special place." oh wait, that would be funny.
Adults only, besides who surfs for PG porn anyway? If you want to make it popular, make it forbidden.

Sounds good on paper!
Kinda like "Speed Racer" did, at some point :)
But the reality is that if we labelled our shows "Adults Only", we'd lose our promoted status, and BTR has a setting in each account that allows prudes to filter out "Adults Only" shows from their search results. We'd become a lot harder to find, except for pervs, who would then soon tune off dissapointed and then write comments to complain there were "too few moans and/or squishy sounds".
I realize we risk a slap down from BTR and/or Apple for having foul language on a "Mature" level, but I prefer that to being shelved with pr0ns :)
Can't find
Went to the BTR site, can't find the classifications where it explains Mature as opposed to adult.
I did see rules for the revenue sharing program, damn. Next week I was going to announce myself as "Steve Gladstone - brought to you by Gladstone Films - www.gladstonefilms.com." Also offer to sell my sponsorship. Thought it would be hugely funny to start every comment like that, but BTR would disqualify from revenue sharing.
Well any way - This comment brought to you by the fine people at Gladstone Films

You could do that.
You could do that.
Guests and anyone on air can promote themselves, or we can promote guest's products
Say you have EZ on, he can promote OADASN. Even if he became an official sponsor, with a commercial, he could still talk about the film on the show.
It's more like I was saying somewhere in another thread about "repurposing content", they just don't want you gaining money outside of their control. Or, selling the show without their permission.
What they're saying, from what I gather, is that you couln't go get McDonalds to give you money to talk about them. BTR then wouldn't get their monetary cut so they ask you to send any sponsor you get, to them for negotiation.
BTR's policy on "repurposing content".
I'm probably going to sound like I'm splitting hairs here, but any site we have the show listed on, will have to pull the information from BTR or keep BTR as the central source. Like iTunes is referecing the BTR RSS feed. The BTR jingle will still be at the front of the show. And, we're not making money from iTunes for the show.
I don't think we can technically "market" the show elsewhere, as to me, that implies money is being made. And, due to prepping my own show, I've talked to BTR and they frown upon shows being "sold" or taken to other sites, that don't include them, since the show is made on their servers and phone lines. Technically, the copyright is ours, but as the show is on their site, they can ban our account if we try to sell it somewhere else, without getting their permission first.
I'm just sharing what BTR told me. I think "syndication" is not an option for us, unless we get a station to want to pick us up, then we'd probably have to leave BTR and go with a contract with that station, allowing for syndication and "starting over", not being able to "repurpose" (BTR's wording) the content of our 30 some shows we've got now. I don't know...anyone have any radio contacts or have any radio business knowledge of how that might work? I just know what BTR told me.
You guys have been doing the
You guys have been doing the show for almost a year without getting any money, why start getting paid for it now? The idea was simply just to expand the audience. I've downloaded plenty of free broadcasts before. It's just a way to be heard, like youtube.
Reason why.
The show will still be free to the listener.
Why start "earning money with it now?"
Because BTR is eventually going to put ads in our profile and show anyway. If we aren't opting in to the RevShare, those dollars and cents stay with BTR. Why not opt-in and earn money off the ads that BTR are eventually going to put in anyway?
Well obviously
we get a lot more listeners if it's free.
haha
I originally read your title wrong. I thought it said, I have iTunes, not I hate iTunes. :-P
Truthfully, I hate it too, but it's the only way I cansync my iPod. grrr. Plus, I hate how it automatically does certain things, that you can't override, to change. Grrrr.
selling out = widening your
selling out = widening your audience
Charging Fort Wagner
Of course selling out will widen your audience, but the trick is to do it without watering it the fuck down.
Now
look, I'm a capitalist just like the next motherfucker, but I think
we're treading on some dangerous ground here. Once you start
going after money, you hand over control. For example;
Radio Executive: "Why does that guy with Ronny Cox's accent from Deliverance
keep talikng about used Tampons and bleaching assholes. Can't you
get him to talk about Jamie Lynn Spears? He's a redneck,
right? He should know about that sort of thing!"
When
EZ talked to me about it yesterday, my immediate reaction was as it is
now; I don't want money for doing the show (I'm not convinced that I
should even be on the fucking thing, but I'll leave that to my betters
to decide). When money is on the line, that means that people who
cut checks get to say what's fair game and what's off fucking limits,
and frankly, I don't think PRR or myself have the kind of lower gears
that would be neccessary for such compromise. The real question
then becomes, can you maintain the integrity (If I may use that word)
of the show without the kind of distractions that we provide.
Would we really lose listeners if that aspect of the show were to go by
the wayside? If EZ and Marco can find a way to market the show
and make money, my hat's off. Go for it, fellas. But I
prefer to do the thing for the fucking hell of it, not money. And
not for nothing, but I also like that fact that, as of right now, if
Marco tells me to fuck right off, that's his call and his alone.
A contract would make it so lawyers could get paid, and fuck those
ball-washing bastards. I came here to contribute what little I
can and that would be diminished in my estimation if it had a dollar
value attached to it. Not to mention the fact that I
hate being on a fucking chain.
As far as the Adults Only label
goes, I think if we keep the show like it is in terms of content, then
it damn-well should be adults only. Not only does it keep kids
away, it also lends the thing a kind of mystery that just sounds sexy
from the gate. And trust me, "movies" and "Adults Only" in the
description will raise some fucking eyebrows. And we need more
preverts in our audience. Fuck, we're packed up with 'em on the
show, lets play to our people.
If it's just ridiculous, it's bad.
IF IT IS RRIIIDDDIICCUUULLOOUUSS, then it's okay.
Adults Only = The Scarlet Letter
The only reason why I dont want to label our BTR shows as "Adults Only" is because I'm fairly sure that will get us off our "promoted" status, and may knock us out of search results too. While I agree there's a cool mystique to being labelled that, the rest of world disagrees and thinks its smut. Whether they're correct is besides the point :)
So, if Apple gives us trouble for the language, then fuck Apple. We're not going to change who we are for anything under six figures. After that, we'll consider it :)
BigSugar, you're an asset to the show man! Dont change one bit of who you are, please keep on bringin on the sweet week after week man, I'm counting on you! And to the Radio Executive you fictionalized above, I'd only have four words for him "squeal like a pig" :) like I said, we change/censor/water-down NOTHING for NOBODY unless they come at us with six figures, and then we can talk. That's our stand :)
P.S. You keep giving me movie ideas with your coment titles man!!
Charging Fort Wagner: In a post apocalyptic world, a group of military types have hoarded all of the uncontaminated food and water inside Fort Wagner. This is the story of a hero of the people, who brings revolution for the survival of the many.

If we watered down Big sugar, that is what we would get. Little cooking pun there.
Hell with money, seriously. As Big sugar said.

MONEY VS. SHOW INTEGRITY
I won't sacrifice the explicit hardcore crazy funness of the show. If it has to be a Sunday funday for us and that it's, I vote for keeping it that way. If someone someday offers 6 figures for the 60 minutes, fuck it, I know we'd take it.
Gladstone, what do you mean who needs money? I love money! I want more of it. And after I get more of it, I want more of it after I get even more of it.
The radio show is fun. I love it. But I'm in the entertainment business to make money. This is what I do for a living. I don't have a day job. My job is movies. Entertainment. I spent 16 hours cutting yesterday. Yeah, it's for the love of it. But it's also cause it's my product. My show. I want it to sell for a nice chunk of change. The conversations we have now with everyone involved is no longer "do you think the movie is cool?" We all know it's cool. Our focus now is, "what sells, what doesn't".
So yeah I want to get paid. And when I'm not getting paid, I consider everything that I do to be an investment for the future.
I think in the now but live in the tommorrow.
Radio show. We'll keep it going no doubt. It isn't only entertaining, but it's a tool for promotion for everyone. So fuck the censorship butt poo and we'll keep doing it our way no matter what!

"Baffling the critics since 1971."
Show Business, not Show Pro Bono. Film Industry not Film Hobby.
I didn't realize that BTR would remove the promoted status if you went to Adults only. If that's the case, then yeah, staying with Mature seems best. I was dsurprised originally that Mature showed up as clean language on Apple's end. But, Apple claimed that was the settings they pulled from our RSS feed at BTR. So, if apple classifies our show as clean language based on BTR, then logic would assume that it's BTR telling Apple that a Mature setting has no explicit language.
If Apple has a problem with that, I can just take the show bak out of their listings. No problem. One can subscribe to the show through iTunes anyway. You just enter the RSS feed link directly in, when you click on subsribe to podcast in uTunes, and it pulls all shows in to your iTunes library. People can do that no matter if we're in their directory or not. So, as Marco says, I too think that if Apple wants us to change settings at BTR, to make language listed as explicit. We just leave Apple. It's an issue BTR and Apple should work out, not us.
And as Steve pointed out, BTR doesn't even define those categories anyway. So, they probably don't care.
As for money, they won't care about content or seek to have us tone it down. Or, I seriously doubt they would. They're just taking sponsorships and placing them in the shows they think they'll fit. I'm sure whatever ads they decide to put in our show will be more risque than ads for other shows. I don't thinkwe'll have to worry about anything about anyone having to tone down anything. Just do the show as normal. Just now, a tiny bit of money will be made.
Like EZ, when Entertainment is your job, you better get paid for it. Otherwise, why do it? I'm sure doctors go in to medicine because they love what they do, but you won't find many of them willing to work for free. People who do entertainment for free, are those either trying to suck up to get experience on their resume, cause they know their experiecne won't cut it (as I've done for too long), or they don't work in Entertainment. Making a show takes time and energy. I don't have either to put in to something for free. Especially when I'm in entertainment business. If there is no interest to grow the show in to a business prospect, than it's no different than YouTube. No one makes a living off of YouTube. The only way is to already have something marketable or that you've been paid for, then put that up to YouTube. Otherwise, YouTube means nothing for anyone's career.
This show can promote ourselves. Why would we not want to grow it? If it has no marketability (which I believe it can), then we are all just wasting our time. If we just want to chat, we all have phones. But if we're going to do a show, let's do a show.
Besides, BTR is going to put ads in whether we want them to or not. It's a phasing in process they're doing to be able to pay for the fact we get this service for free. So we can either make some money from it, or BTR can keep it all. Either way, in the future we'll have pre-roll ads, possibly post-roll...and it sounds like we'll have commercial breaks in the future too, that will be for everyone. So, why not get something out of it?
Nice Post!
Wow Eric! This is one of the best posts I've seen you write in a long time! :) Keep at it and you'll be promoted to Captain Hook :)
Nice!
Coding question (and thanks)
Thanks. Unfortunately, it has a lot of typos in it, due to the darn lines in my laptop screen, where it's slowly getting worse. I need to repalce the screen. lol
Also, I've been wondering for quite awhile. I can edit my posts until someone replies to them. Once someone replies to a post, I can't go in and edit, fix typos, etc.
Is this a coding bug, or was this the design?
Its featurish
The idea is that if someone says "Yo Mama!" and then someone replies "No, its YO Mama!" the original guy cant go back and edit his original post to say "who's the best Mama in the world?".
Thats probably a confusing example.
Basically, once someone replies, it would be an issue of fairness if the original guy could still edit the post, because it opens the possibility of rendering the reply non-sensical. Breaking continuity.
That's more or less it. But hey, who cares about typos, this is KarmaCritic! :)

I completely agree that it is a businessa and I want to get paid like everyone else does. Just not in this particular case. If EZ and Marco make millions off of the radio show, and I hopelike hell they do, it'll be because they
made it happen. The show was working just fine before I got there
and will still be going hard at it after I'm long gone. And while
you may call it sucking up, both of these cats have performed minor
miracles on my behalf, so for me it's just trying to give a little
back. Again, it ain't much, but it's what I've got, so maybe that
counts for something in the long run.
Look, somebody offers an option on Red,
I'll take that motherfucker so fast you'll think it smells, tastes and
fucks like pussy. But that shit's not gonna happen for a long,
long time, probably never. I have no illusions. On
my best fucking day, selling something I wrote is an Irish Sweepstakes
long shot. Therefore, it fucking behooves me do it for the love,
baby. I'm trying like hell to get into the business, but while I
wait for that day, I want to have a fuckin' ball doing the thing.
And I'm having a fuckin' ball doing the radio show.
