SNEAK PEEK at RUDOLF + Cast Details

Brendan Morrisey's picture

For Victor's request.

VERY VERY ROUGH of the roughest CUT for the sneak preview at Rudolf.
Please forgive the quality. I'm also editing a little at a time and
since I had trouble trying to upload last night, there was actually
more footage are started edting together using what I have in this
video. So these clips are very short. But more to come soon.

Patrick Barret as JEREMY

Ryan Thomas as RUDOLF

Yinan Shentu as TOM

Nice nice!!

Good casting!!

A humble observation: dont let Jeremy act like the bad guy. Jeremy is our every-man, Jeremy is someone any of us could be, if we were given the chance. His journey into torture and sadism is one of self-discovery, hesitant experimentation, not conscious planning, at least not at the beginning.

The previous paragraph has nothing to do with the clips you showed though, its just general unsolicited advice! :)

Also, have Rudolf HOWL :) Make the pain felt! :)

Muahahahah!

What you see here is

What you see here is nothing. I've had a pretty lengthy talk with the actors of what this script is about. This is why I kinda wasn't ready to post clips from the movie because it's not quite the whole picture yet of what I'm trying to do.

I know, I kinda didn't want to comment because I knew that, but I just couldn't help it because I'm so excited to see this coming reality! Hehehe! Sorry about that! Godspeed You, Black Emperor :)

Brendan Morrisey's picture

I love that

I love that song!

Anyways, I guess this is a sort of a good place to talk about the project with the writer here. I do see Jeremy as the most ordinary of all ordinary guys. But I also believe that every person deep down has a darkside in him or her, or is at least capable of both the good and the bad. The idea of having a zombie chained up in your basement that you get the chance to beat the crap out of everyday is sort of the ultimate male fantasy of violence and aggression. Jeremy can express his aggresive nature and not get in trouble for it. To show Jeremy's descent into darkness, I do think he needs to show some villian-like qualities along the way. Like it sort of progresses through out the film. That's why I'm okay with Patrick's laugh at the end of that one sequence. He's slowly becoming something new.

I haven't shot the opening sequence yet, but I guess at the Christmas party, that is when Jeremy should look most human. Or most ordinary. That way, the movie begins with Rudolf looking most like the monster and Jeremy as the protagonist. But the movie as a whole is about the switching of roles. The character of the zombie grows more and more sympathetic as Jeremy grows less. You start feeling sorry for the zombie, so then that way you're rooting for him once he breaks free and gets revenge on Jeremy. In all zombie movies, its always the zombies that outnumber the humans and the humans trying to escape. In this film, it's the zombie that is outnumbered by the humans. If Rudolf wasn't a zombie, he wouldn't be in this situation. The zombie is being persecuted by the humans. Of course, we're all guilty of having the same conscience that Jeremy has towards zombies, so since Jeremy is the human, the film's goal is to force humans to take a look at themselves and reevaluate their way of thinking towards zombies.

So.... I don't know. Was this what you were thinking of when you wrote it?

FableForge's picture

AAAHHH!!!

Excuse me while I turn around to grin like a maniac for a few seconds.

Okay, I'm back.

Yes. Yes, you could say... yeah, that's the thesis of the story, yup.

Heh.

Wow.

You got it man. You nailed it, you understand this precisely. Actually, I dont think I've seen as good an analysis since some guy sent me a 10 page treatise on JOURNEY OF A GHOST.

You're good.

Can't wait to see da masks you come up wit and how you polish em... !

victorpeceno's picture

Hey Brendan

I know that it is all being worked, no judging

just one comment, make the zombie down, in any way, he is always stand up,

find the way to show all the pain that the zombie is having..., for example he stand up just when he hear the dude come...

otherwise can´t wait to see more

more ideas,  find a door with hard mechanism to open that will be gret for the opening credits

whatever door, just never show that again when the dude come, just show him like you are doing now once the door is open...

Keep posting please!!!

;-)

No Rest For a Zombie

No real need for a zombie to sit. The Bub character from the movie Day of the Dead is the main influence on this film. Rudolf = Bub's distant cousin. I did have him slouching in that one shot though.

I'll decide everything once I have closer of a finished product to edit. Most of the editing in my other projects tend to move along pretty quickly so I'm not too worried about that.

cpparker's picture

Hey it looks really good so far

I can't wait to see more! BTW you may want to zombie up his arms and hands a bit more they don't look as made up as his face. I love that shot out the basement window of the flowers.

JayYuma's picture

Great! Looks interesting.

I like the green makeup. I saw you get dangerously close to profiling one of the punches. I had a few weeks working with stuntmen and I watched every detail. You have to sell it by putting the object (fist) between the camera and victim or hide it all together. In other words the goal is to wipe the camera as much as possible with the action. Of course, the movement of taking the blow sells it even more. You did some really good stunt work here. Hide the impact area with the weapon and there is your camera angle.

Brendan Morrisey's picture

Actually, I feel I got

Actually, I feel I got lucky with those two punches but the first one still looks kinda weird to me. have tons more takes that look bad. I mean really bad.

I'll remember the "wipe of the camera" for the next day of shooting.

Davonie's picture

To make it Look Real...

Let em get hit for realz... let em eat one of da punches... it'll be worth it... !

eat da punch like its candy... hAhA.

It'll put some memorable shit for you as a director... :)

JayYuma's picture

It's Hard To Explain In Words

but basically if the camera angle lines up with the fist and victim you can't tell whether or not there is contact. You make it 2 dimensional by lining it all up. Play with it. I guess you already are.

                                       Killer stands here

CAMERA-> ------------------------- SPLAT!  Victim's here

                                        rt hand cross ^

                                        starts over here

Is Better Than:

rt cross start here   Killer stands here

CAMERA-> ------------------------ SPLAT!

Victim's here           (between the Splat! and Victim the camera sees space)

Funny Games

Mr. B, got some serious "Funny Games" going.

There is a bit a homosexuality to it too.

Kinda a gay torture vid vibe going.

Brendan Morrisey's picture

I haven't seen neither the

I haven't seen neither the original or the remake of Funny Games yet.

When you say gay, are you refering to the state of my video right now? or the movie Funny Games? Cause I thought Naomi Watts took her clothes off in that film.

Funny Games 2

Let me know what you think about Funny Games when you watch it.

Rudolf is a bit Jeffrey Dahmer-ish. Is that the intent?

Brendan Morrisey's picture

No. I can't see the

No. I can't see the resemblance.

John Meredith's picture

Dahmer...

...used handcuffs and was accused of making literal "zombies" out of his victims.

From wiki:

The story of Dahmer's arrest and the inventory in his apartment, which was apartment number 213, quickly gained notoriety: several corpses were stored in acid-filled vats, severed heads were found in his refrigerator, and implements for the construction of an altar of candles and human skulls were found in his closet. Accusations soon surfaced that Dahmer had practiced necrophilia, cannibalism, and possibly a form of trepanation in order to create so-called "zombies."

So, like it or not, this is a Dahmer-esque flick.

Brendan Morrisey's picture

Oh, I thought you said

Oh, I thought you said Rudolf looked like him. Yeah, read whatever you want into it. That's what its there for.

John Meredith's picture

Cool...just giving feedback.

I don't think I will be the only member of your audience that will see the parallel and similarities unless they have never heard of or are not famliar with Dahmer's behaviors.

I am not saying making a movie that reminds people of what Dahmer did is a bad thing per se, but the only person that would actually have something "living" in their basement that they could beat up would be someone of Dahmers ilk.

They start with helpless animals then move to humans later on.

Maybe it's because the "zombie" looks like a high-school kid with make-up on. If you dressed up "Jeremy" like a clown I would think of John Wayne Gacy.

It is what it is when you deal with evil topics like sadism, torture, and victims. You are emulating evil and your audience are mostly people with a few screws loose.

Is that "Jeremys" house? Does he live with his parents? He seems kinda young to have his own house.

I watched it and that is what came to mind.

I watched On/Off and thought of Crayola crayons because of the colors.

A lot more shooting got

A lot more shooting got done today.

Here's a word of advice to all filmmakers. Never have your zombie actors eat a piece of cheese pizza off another actor's face that's covered in liquid latex and blood. The zombie actor might just throw up like our's almost did.

Next Saturday will be the next day of shooting.

cpparker's picture

Yum!

Yeah we had a similar problem in Getting a Head. Our actress who was standing in for my daughter accidentally swallowed some of the fake blood we put in her mouth and immediately did throw up. I hope you got some good shots out of it though.
