Sonnyboo's Blog: THE DARK KNIGHT EDITION!Well, I’m pumped. I’m going to the midnight screening of THE DARK KNIGHT. As I’ve said before, I’m not really that big of a Batman fan. I’ve never purchased a single Batman comic in my life, and I’ve had many a comics. I’m a moderate when it comes to Batman movies. I liked the 2 Tim Burtons, hated the 2 Joel Schumacher ones, and thought BATMAN BEGINS was okay. Well, ever since I saw that IMAX ™ clip, now officially dubbed “The Dark Knight Prologue”, I’ve been eager to see this movie. I bought a BLU-RAY DVD of Batman Begins (my first batman movie purchase), and it contained in full HD 1080P glory the IMAX™ Dark Knight Prologue scene and I’ve played it at least a dozen times on my 42” HD screen with the 5.1 surround blaring until my ears bleed and the kitties hide in terror. I recently read that director/writer Christopher Nolan used the movie HEAT (1995, Michael Mann) as an influence. It shows. I called it last December (see previous blogs). Even my Sexy Fiancé Veronica ™ will attend the midnight show tonight, and she doth hateth the Comic Book movie genre. I watch my webstats pretty closely, even when I don’t have new material out there. I like to watch the trends in viewers and what people like and don’t like, especially in regards to things I write and direct. What surprises me most is that HORRORS OF WAR ’s WEB DOC on the making of SCENE 6 has been the biggest hitter lately, at least on YOUTUBE ™. It averages a steady 150 views a day, some days more, some days a little less, but so far, it’s the front runner. The HORRORS OF WAR trailer still ranks highest in views, with the MOVIEMAKER TECHNIQUES not far behind, but I can’t figure out the attraction to the SCENE 6 WEBDOC . Granted, it’s my personal favorite, and it was the first one I did, but where are the hits coming from? Who is watching this and telling others to see it? I cannot trace the links to it, nor explain the months long fixation by several thousand online viewers. A site called PERFORMING ARTISTS site] has linked to and used one of my articles trying to help struggling actors and directors avoid some pitfalls. When I stop getting giddy about seeing something I write or make mean something to other people – that is the day I should quit. Until then, I get excited. I’m pumped. I feel like I just work up from a year long bad dream. With the upcoming COWTOWN FILM SERIES , where I’m showing 9-10 feature films made in Ohio, along with a new TV series shot in HD, I feel pretty darn supercilious towards many. It’s not unlike getting revived with a jolt of energy in the gullet. My voice has returned, and with it, my inspirado. I’ve lined up a local celebrity host for both the TV series and the COWTOWN FILM SERIES . Depending on if I go to Japan (looking more and more unlikely as each day passes without an airline ticket), I will have more time to dedicate to promotion and marketing for the film series. I benefit by having some of my shorts play before hand, but also, the general good will of working as a collective to support each other. If we can make a success out of these screenings, more wallets might open. Not only to shell out some $$$ to see locally produced movies, but also from potential investors who might see the future in what we are doing. I started creating title sequences for the various “segments” of the show that are heavily inspired by the teachings of Andrew Kramer and Video Copilot.net . The kid’s a freakin’ genius. From some of the HORRORS OF WAR screenings, people seemed to really like my “pre-show entertainment” segments of material that played before the show. This time, I’m taking it up 20 notches. I’m 2 months out and already putting my Shiite together. I won’t take any chances, and taking my lessons learned. Time to take everything up a notch. It’s been far too long, my faithful droogies. =-? I got my tickets today during lunch. One of the 2 tickets was a freebie from inside the DVD no less. Plus, it will be in DLP digital projection, which I love.
Only 3.58 hours left!
(No subject)
I see what you did there
And I shall one-up it!
meh
good idea, but I didn't find it as funny as the one about how ridiculous the hype is surrounding this movie.
seen
I saw it, I loved it. It is definitely better than the last one, Heath Ledger lives up to the hype, and the movie astounds for a comic book based movie.
They take the "real" approach to the Nth degree. They also followed the outline of HEAT a little too literally in some ways, but since it's a great film, it worked well.
Dark Poetry
The review in Time magazine just waxes poetic about how this movie speaks of a lot of themes psychological and socio-political today. As I was reading it, I kept thinking... man... whenever a movie has a movie critic issuing lines like "who are we, really?" and "all major characters touch the bottom of darkness, some never to emerge again" and "turns pulp material into dark poetry" ... man, that's a good movie. I think... I will really enjoy if this becomes Oscar worthy material, because there's so much depth in comic books that most people never get to understand. Christopher Nolan and his bro deserve a lot of props for daring to go into the heart of the material, when they could have taken the safe Schumacher route and just deliver standard-faire action. Then again, that didn't turn out to be so safe back in the day, did it...
I'll have to go see this movie as soon as I have a chance. I think it'll help us all if it delivers the message to studios, that dark is good, that good-evil ambiguity is good, that comic book heroes can be "realistic" and its good. ... yup.
I came back after an 11:15
I came back after an 11:15 AM screening of this movie. I was on the edge of my seat through out most the film.
If you have read the Batman graphic novels such as The Killing Joke, The Long Halloween, and even Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns, you will be able to pinpoint every little single detail they borrowed from the comics and witness how they blew it up to make it larger than life. This movie really gives hope to comic book fans that maybe more filmmakers and studios will treat other franchises seriously the way they did this one. Plus not all comic book movies have to look like live-action comic books. The characters can be portrayed as gritty and real as they were in The Dark Knight.
Is the movie Oscar worthy? I hope so. The movie is extremely dark. The writers show no mercy towards the characters when it comes to creating conflict. The bodycount is ridiculous. But at the end of it all, the movie still leaves you with hope. Despite the endless amount of evil in the world, there still is some good to be found. If the movie can inspire good in people the way films like Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile did, then I don't see why this film can't be Oscar worthy.
And I also think that Aaron Eckhart's performace was also just as good as Heath's.
UPDATE: I would also like to point out that this has suddenly made the number 4 position on IMDB's top 250. Its behind Godfather part 2 and in front of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!
Damn it! It's tearing me apart! I have been waiting for this moment since the day I was born! I heard the movie was the absolute.
CAN'T F'ING WAIT!

You are going to like The Joker, A LOT!
I'M DYING TO SEE IT AGAIN!
The Joker was off the hook! Love the Joker! But I liked all the characters a lot also. Two-Face is one scary lookin' sonuvabitch!
I have to see it again, because even though I thought the movie was well written, I don't remember what happened cause so much happened!
the action sequences were great!
The movie itself looks beautiful! Eye candy all the way!
It's one of those movies that don't come around that often.
I do have one little nit pick though. THERE WASN'T ENOUGH JOKER!
EZEQUIEL
So rare
I thought it would be impossible for The Dark Knight to live up to the magnitude of the expectations that preceeded it. I was wrong.
Nolan is a genius. Ledger's performance was legendary. Eckhart's portrayal of Dent surprisingly put him on a map in which new roads should be built just for him to travel.
What was true during filming is even more evident in the finished product... HOLY BIG WOW TIMES A BILLION.
Just think
that the guy who made this little short film would years later be the director of The Dark Knight.
SAW IT!
I'm breathless! It was everything I wanted it to be! Holy shit! I don't know what my favorite film is now---Raiders of the Lost Ark, or The Dark Knight! LOVED IT!

IMAX TOMORROW
Whilst my girlfriend starts a new job, I'm going to go see this in IMAX tomorrow afternoon. One viewing was NOT enough.
THe midnight show was so packed, you'd have thunk it was aregular Saturday night at 8, when in fact it was a Thursday midnight show.
Let us know the difference
Let us know the difference with the IMAX presentation. Is it worth going again to see it in IMAX?
And whilst I agree with everything said here...the film was tremendous, the acting amazing (post-humous Oscar for Ledger? Methinks at least a nod)....I have only one problem with the movie.
Who thought that ridiculous "batman voice" of Bale's was a good idea?!?!
I like it.
I like it.
I LIKE IT
I like it.
EZEQUIEL
Yeah
I think the voice was a little overdone too and even started to giggle a couple of times because it just seemed a little silly. Bale was not the star of this movie Heath was he completely stole it. It really sucks that we won't be able to see him do it again. It was an excellent film!
The Darth Voice
Yes, the voice changer had to be done.
Finally, someone has dealt with the question: "why don't Bruce Wayne's friends recognize his voice?"
I LIKE IT
I like it.
EZEQUIEL
I don't understand what
I don't understand what you're asking... The whole reason he disguises it is so they don't.
Now why doesn't everyone recognize Spider-Man's voice? That's what should be asked.
I LIKE IT
I like it!
EZEQUIEL
Well, really, though....how
Well, really, though....how many people end up having conversations with BOTH Batman AND Bruce Wayne? Not Commissioner Gordon...he barely knows Wayne. The thugs Batman beats up? Not effin' likely. Pretty much just Dent...and that relationship just formed durring the movie. Besides, if we all accept no one recognizing Superman for Clark Kent just because he takes off his glasses, I'm fine with Batman having the same voice as Bruce Wayne. Especially if it means he won't sound like a 50 year old smoker. I kept expecting him to hack out a lung durring one of his lines.
But again...really my only beef with the movie...Everythign else was glorious.
The Oscar has never before looked so series!
HAHA
That's funny!
EZEQUIEL
if
That would be the greatest Oscar campairn in history if they follow that image....
Upon reflection, I just realized what a spoiler...
talking about the voice was.
I won't be able to enjoy the movie now.
;)
P.s. I am just kidding.

John
You are such a smart ass! Or is it just the opposite. ;-)
LET'S CALL SOME ATTENTION TO SOMETHING
Something.
haha
No really. I don't know what happens here online sometimes. My primary function here as a proud member of KC, and proud member of the KC pirate captain brethren is-----to provide information, share experiences, share what I'm doing, learn from others that are doing cool things, and to protect the site at all times from wannabe motherfuckers that attempt to defame any of us.
Yeah we make fun of each other at times, but it's all in good fun.
What I don't understand about Meredith is...that I just don't understand him! All I know is that he loves Disneyland and Iron Maiden just as much as I do! But then he posts a million things unrelated to what he's doing in film. Probably cause he isn't doing much. Not a jab at you John. Just the truth. Post more about what you're doing, who cares if all that you have to boast about is your short film playing at a gay film festival.
Yeah we all talk shit here. We're a wild bunch for sure. But post cool things. And don't come back at me about posting fights with wannabes cause they had it coming, and yes it is related to us as filmmakers--it teaches you all what kind of assholes to look out for and avoid.
Captain Lady Parker! big hugz n' luvz!
