Comicon in San Diego, and let's see where we are one year from now

FableForge's picture
Peceno

Hey people, since our producer was talking to people about this project at the Comicon in San Diego today, I guess its alright for me to share this little image with you guys here:

This beauty was created by Hector aka Espekpekpektro From The Third Rope, and it's, if I may say so, one of the nicest works I've seen him do so far. It only took him about a day! It captures the tone and mood of our movie, .... it gives me goosebumps too. It's the cover for the comic book we're making, upon which we'll base the movie later on (refer to my strategy post for more info :)) , and looking at it... man, it looks as if by opening this book you risk summoning some evil entity from avernus.

BTW, the character in the cover is one of the major ones, and his name is "Antonio Peceno Santana" aka "El Carnicero" :)

Hope you guys like it, we'll keep you posted with more things as more things develop, but I just wanted to excuse myself for not being as active lately; it's because this project has kept me really really busy. Which is good.

See you arounds! :)

Awesome! That's exactly

Awesome! That's exactly something that I want to see myself doing one of these days. Write a comic book.

I'll definetly buy it when it comes out. Can't wait to find out more on what it's about. Does it have any relation to that youtube video that was also called The Unnaturals?

FableForge's picture

Thanks!

Hey, thanks!

Yup, it is related! ... that video was supposed to be something that was created by one of the characters actually. Its convoluted... heheh. The characters use youtube too. At one point they were going to have blogs too, maybe they still will! Heh, as long as things keep moving forward :)

THE UNNATURALS

I wasn't going to say much about the project until Marco felt comfortable. So...here...we...GO!

THE UNNATURALS

!

Yes. This is the project we've been referring to as "the project" we haven't really named or really talked about. And yes, Espektro (Mr. Hector Bustamante!) has been commisioned to ink up/illustrate the first issue comic book. Marco has been working very hard on this project with our partner Robert Lawrence and myself. This project is what landed Marco representation.

Robert Lawrence was indeed at Comi-con yesterday representin'! Robert and I are producing, Marco of course is the writer! woo hoo! It is still unclear as to if I will be the director since the film is an 8 ton gorilla. We've talked about going after the director of "WANTED", which I'm excited about. But....if I do, by some miracle get the opportunity to direct this.........it will be Ezequiel at his ferocious finest!

Many companies and studios are really into this project. So wish us luck! And yes! we named one of the main characters after our very own karma pirate captain, PECENO!

This has been a very exciting project for me, and it is also exciting to be working with Marco! What's great about this project, that the material is never before seen. Totally original and wild! Full of myth, legend, action, a chick with black wings and machine guns (love it!) richly developed characters. did I say a lot of cool action already?

I don't want to give too much away. But just know, we're not fucking around here. This is serious business and I'm happy to be in business with the people i'm in business with. And of course, Espektro's artwork makes  me flip! Awesome shit!

It's been a long process, but we get closer every week it seems. Lots of hard work. The plan is to have a complete package before we tackle the studios. And right now, they all are like girls in heat, and we're ready to give to them!

Special thanks to Hector (espektro)!

And a very special thanks to Marco for being a writer with great talents, drive and professionalism (is that a word? haha). Marco is a writer I will work with forever. I look forward to seeing his career fluorish.

Excellent

it is an evocative image

that shows the amazing potential about the work that you are doing

Congrats for so excellent work!!

and thanks so much, have no words, for using my name for a main character

Thanks!!!! :-)

YO HO!!!

Pirates Forever!!!

FableForge's picture

A Vuestra Salud!

Captain, this character hails from Spain and his name is a tribute to yourself, and the "Santana" came from captain Xarach!!

We have another character named "Brickhouse" that's in honor of BigSugar; I try to make his dialog sound like him, if I only get halfway there it'll be awesome! :)

Wow Marco!! Amazing news!

Wow Marco!!

Amazing news! It's so great to see how it's going with this project! Can't wait to know more!

You know that it's a great honour for me to have part of my name in one of the characters, and to be part of this community! I'm so proud of it!

Waiting for knowing more and more and more!!! :D

Blast

Sweet Jesus, boss, I hope you know what the fuck you're doing.  Don't get yourself in trouble 'cause of me, man.  You don't need that kinda heat.  I am, however, honored, sir.  Can't wait to read it, man.

If it's just ridiculous, it's bad.

IF IT IS RRIIIDDDIICCUUULLOOUUSS, then it's okay.

victorpeceno's picture

YO HO!!

do you have more to show

can´t wait to see more or know more about the project

sounds so great!

take as much conversation as you can with bigsugar and takes lot of notes

that will help

the conversation about the wheater for objects it was a copy paste from a conversation I had with a work mate...

I like some much how the symbol of "Peace"

turned into a sad face just with two "x" that is absolutely amazing

and of course conforming a Pirate symbol!!

Rum for Captains!!

Unnaturals Rise

Well, here's the little video Brendan was talking about. This is not really a trailer, not even a teaser... its just something one of the characters whipped up. Its meant to look not like it was made by a video professional, more like it was made by a guy who has a PC and .. issues. Heh. It's in the style of the conspiracy/revolution videos made by the 9/11 Truth movement. It talks about the Unnaturals as if they were real, not as if they were an upcoming movie/comic book/videogame.

There's lots more stuff, but I'll check with the producer first if we can release it here. One thing I do know for sure, as soon as Hector finishes the first 16-page comic, I would love to show it here... ... mark my words, Hector is going places. As an artist, as a filmmaker, that man is going places :)

Brendan Morrisey's picture

There was another one too

There was another one too with Juan Reidenger and footage from Camera Guy. I thought I remembered that being titled The Unnaturals too.

FableForge's picture

Oh thats right!

Oopsie, I guess the video I just posted was probably news then, hehehe :)

Yeah, that video with Riedinger was back when the talk was about making something in the Cloverfield style.. you know, found video... cell phone cameras, closed circuit tv, that kind of stuff. It had an interesting premise too: a guy wakes up next to a torn up corpse and panics... not remembering if it was him who did it... In the end, I think we're gonna introduce that character in a different way, but it was still fun to make that video because EZ got me a professional reading by Juan merely hours after I finished typing the script, and the footage itself was there almost the next day. Felt nice working with pros. Heh, and yeah, that's footage from Camera Guy indeed, good catch!!

MARCO IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO TELL ANYMORE! DAMN IT! haha

No more! This is a project that is very close to me. It's funny, cause for years I've been playing around with this concept. I was doing business with Robert Lawrence, and simply asked Marco, "what do you got?" And he came up with something almost unbelievably close to this pet concept of a project that I had.

Robert, Marco and I all teamed up. Marco came up with this marvelous world and captivating characters. GREAT WRITING MARCO! Very imaginative.

Let me tell you something about working with Marco. He works without an ego. He works extremely hard. And as I have said before, we started working on this MONTHS ago. It's been a long drive...but worth it cause our destination will prove to be worth   $$$

So I believe that the next post here will be pages from the comic book. So you'll all have to wait until then to discover more about this world of THE UNNATURALS!

I wish Hector could be completely onboard, but he's got his own fish to fry after the comic is done.

Happy to have Marco as a creative force on the team!

Slam it! Bang it! Cock it! Shoot it!

Still got the other three ideas

Hehehe, the Unnaturals (the name was "Necrotopia" originally, which is why the logo is a mix between "skull and crossbones" and the "peace sign") was just one of four possible ideas I pitched to EZ, and then I pitched it to Robert to make a web series. That's how it all started. The other three are kinda cool too. I know Punk Rock would appreciate number 2, "God's Hand" because its way too similar to the premise of the movie FRAILTY, although perhaps that is its weakness also. Unfortunately, the "survivors cope in a zombie-ravaged world" premise was taken by another of Robert's people, so we couldn't do it, but I know Brendan would have loved that. And the last one I'm actually developing with Hector.

It's been fun, but mostly, it's been educational. Its sort of like training for me,.. training in how industry people think, how to talk to industry people, how to plan things from a commercial point of view without betraying The Message that made you want to spin a story in the first place, how to do Business while at the same time being faithful to The Story, etc etc. I've done ... lots.. lots of outlines, documents, characters, history of the world, places, events, all sorts of backstory, I've done interactive presentations, private websites, in-character media (like the video above), logos, cards, and now my favorite: comic scripts. Hector has done lots of character art, and now he's doing the comic. And Robert has talked this project to a whole lot of important people I wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of meeting on my own, including one with EZ when they went to the VP of Disney and got a lot of positive feedback.

I feel like I've already won a lot, and I'm not necessarily talking about representation, it's more about the things I've learned so far about the industry and people in the industry; how it works. Education is always self-investment, and I've gotten a lot of it for free so far. Well, not exactly free, actually I've worked hard for it, but if you love something it doesn't feel like work. And you learn from it too.

Something like that :)

Anyway, I've said this before, but I'm really grateful to EZ for introducing me to this world. I'm learning fast, (or at least it feels like it!) and we'll see where things go!

victorpeceno's picture

That is

really great man!!

I would like to read the script for "The Unnaturals"

about the second project, there are many movies with the same premise but differents at all

of course not to develop that with a producer that is alredy involved in a movie with the same premise that you have, but consider to keep and develop the project

Really great news!!

Go Captain!!

Brendan Morrisey's picture

Oh snap!

I just thought of something... If the characters are of Spanish origin, and this story features a big range of monsters/myths, are you going to have the
Chupacabra?

FableForge's picture

Very possible! :)

Only a couple characters are of spanish origin, but yeah, we do have a big range of monsters and myths, and yeah, we actually do have a quick cameo by the Chupacabras, hehe, great minds think alike!
