FableForge's Foundlings #22: Stop the Press! If you're a DP, or work with a DP YOU NEED TO SEE THIS

Whoah!

Wow. I'm a jaded guy, and I just boasted about something that I thought was mindblowing (that Emily video by Image Metrics) but here, its only 9 am and my mind is blown again.

Ah, to be 20 again! My kids are lucky to be just growing up in this world, they're gonna have a lot of fun. And maybe we old folks will too:

Using Photographs to Enhance Videos of a Static Scene from pro on Vimeo.

So it blends the still photo

So it blends the still photo with the video? That's what it sounded like.

That's exactly what it does!

So basically, we can go around using cheapo cameras and we can take shaky-shoulder mounted video, with horrible lighting and absolutely no sense of what "specularities" even are, and as long as we take a lot of high resolution still photos, and maybe know a little photoshop, we end up with dolly-like, stabilized, perfectly lit high resolution video. Not to mention, we can even hide unwanted elements (like that hole in the tree, or the parking sign by the flowers) and do all sorts of tricks (like those art filters in the park scene). Brendan, you're the youngest guy around here, it falls on you to master these techniques my friend, and teach all the old dogs a lesson! :)

kinda gives director of PHOTOGRAPHY a whole new meaning.

True that!

However, it can only be used with video of static things, understandably. So, in order to get actors or things moving around in the frame other than the camera, we would need to use things like green screen and 3D, which is my other post over here.

I wish I was still in time to go to school full time for things like these, somewhere. I don't think this bleeding edge stuff is taught in schools yet, but nevertheless, I wish I had the kind of time it takes to learn them right! :) I'm excited :)

LOVE IT!

The beauty of technology! Hey, do you think we could develop something like this to make ugly girls look better?

Damn it! I forgot! it's called alcohol!
