What Kind Of Day Has It Been?

BigSugar's picture

Well, how about that.

Just look at the fuckin' state we're in right now, would you?   I'm telling you, man, it has been one helluva banner fucking week for Big Daddy Leon and EZ. Two completed entries into a contest (their third, by the way), put on as an offer of help to the denizens of this place raise themselves out of obscurity.  The slings and fucking arrows of insane writers and governmental bureaucracies on a damn-near daily basis.  All of that on top of the day-to-day bullshit that we all have to endure.  And cap it off with this runaround shit from Gadberry.  Yeah, that's what these guys have had to deal with for this last week.  You tell me slick, you think you can handle that?  'Cause I'll bet you all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that most of us would've tossed in the towel and kicked back with cold one.  Fuck it.  So, here we go;

I'm from a tiny-ass hole in a former penal colony.  I'm nobody.  I'm nothing.  I'm a terrible fucking writer, but I'm a worse human being.  I've fucked up in every single way imaginable, with the exception of murder (although there are some who would even accuse me of that, hippie fucks that they are).  I'd love it if that were hyperbole, but it isn't.  It's the God's-honest truth.  If I thought it'd do any good at all, I'd have long ago cranked up the car and closed the garage door tightly, but all that would serve to do is make it easier on me. You see, lucky fuck that I am, I have a small but dedicated group of folks back home who are pulling for me to make something out of myself.  A bunch of beautiful human beings who believe, like good Christians, that every soul is worth saving, even if they aren't all worth buying. Thus, that I'm alive to be here is thanks to them.  That I'm here, well that's thanks to two people; Ezequiel and Marco.

About a year ago, I read the now famous piece that Harry Knowles published over at Ain't It Cool News, and I just had to come see what was up.  I got all up in Sublim and we know what happened there.  But a funny thing happened.  I "met" Marco and dug the cat's "Fuck you, I'm doing it anyway" mentality.  Then I met Ezequiel.  And what I found out is that these cats are genuinely good people who want to help.  They want to help.   Marinate in that shit for a second.  These guys couldn't pick me out of a lineup and they want to help me.  Some of you out there have read my shit and seen exactly how deficient I am.  And these cats with talent to spare are putting up their time and energy and business capital to give me some sort of shot in this rough trade.  Are you out of your fucking mind?  Never happens, right?  You best fuckin' believe it.  And tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to go take a shot at following in Ezequiel's footsteps.  I'm lining up to spoon down all I can pick up about this nutty fucking business, and it's all on a word from Ezequiel.  Whom I met by joining Marco's site.  Is that a straight enough line for you?

Now, I know there are those of you out there who see the above as some sort of Def-Con four ass kissing.  All I can say to those folks is, "That's why you're flipping fuckin' burgers, baby."  You all have the same odds as I do of getting anywhere in this fucked-up movie business, hell most of you have way fuckin' better odds.  But many of you seem bent on pissing away the hands that are stuck out to you on this site.  John Meredith tells me I need to work on relationships.  Okay, pal riddle me this one; why in the good fuck are you not in my shoes right now?  Why aren't you here doing the thing, baby?  Seems to me you've got the relationships in place to do it.  So why haven't you pulled the trigger?  Brad, you chose to do a feature instead of helping EZ.  It never occurred to you to offer up your assistance in return for his?  I don't see your feature film on display, haven't heard about it other than what you say.  Yeah, I know things fall apart all the time in this business.  Think maybe EZ could've helped you keep it together?  Maybe even get across the finish line.  Maybe he's got some advice about how to proceed with Hitman or Blid Eye.  How about the rest of you?  Where are your scripts and films?  Where's the vigorous debate about the relative merits or lack thereof on somebody's work?  Where's the mud and the fuckin' blood, baby?  We all owe Marco better than we've been doing.  All of us.   And look, the bottom line is really simple mathematics; at some point the trouble of running this monkey farm will outweigh the payoff.  And on that day, we will have all lost something huge.  Don't make the mistake of taking this shit for granted.  'Cause when Marco and EZ are done, kiddies, you will most certainly not hear from those cats again.  That is, until you're sitting your rotund ass in a theater and their names come up on the screen.  And when you lean over to tell your "life partner" that you knew those guys, they're gonna look right back at you and say, "Wow!  That's neat!  How come the fuck you're sitting here in Wendy's uniform?"  That's gonna be a tough one for you to answer, baby.

As for me, I'm scared out of my fucking mind.  Mostly because I want really badly not to let Ezequiel and Marco down.  I asked for their help, and I'm going to try my very fucking best not to make them regret giving it to me.  And I'll tell you, these guys are good folk.  All you have to do is ask and follow through.  Doesn't seem that hard to me.  After all, I'm nobody, I'm nothing.  But tomorrow, I'm gonna get a shot at doing what I've wanted to do my whole life.  What the fuck have you done lately?

Change it, baby.  That's all you gotta do.

I wanted to clarify what I

I wanted to clarify what I ment regarding the feature and the video. I have been so overwhelmed by what needs to get done, that the video was the farthest thing from my mind. I had all these great ideas that EZ and I were stoked about, all that was prior to me getting PAID to direct Prada. By  the time I got around to the video, I found out I could not do it on IMOVIE. I even reached out to Vic for help and he said no can do on IMOVIE. EZ suggested I use my editor but he has been SO sick he was unable to help... So thats the story on that.

Regarding asking EZ for help on my stuff I have... I have asked him hundreds of times to read Blind and Hitman and all I ever got was "No, I am too busy" so I have tried but to no avail. I understand being too busy because thats how I have been since getting hired to do Prada.

I truly thank you however for taking time to read Blind Eye and Project Hitman, its means a  lot and your feedback help too.

All the best,

Former Captain "RUM" Youngs LOL

(I still have the run though)

THERE ARE REASONS

There are reasons why I won't read.

1) What do I get out of it?

2) Why am I gonna read something you're never gonna do?

3) Why should I read it? I'm not in business with you and I don't want to be.

4) Only amatuers run around asking "read my script, yeah, would you read it?" Professionals write and send to their managers/agents.

5) What do I get out of it?

You see. you still don't get it.

The reason for mentioning

The reason for mentioning above was because SUGAR was asking why I never asked you for help, which was quit the contrary, I did you just have to have a reason to read stuff. The funny thing is you asked me on SEVERAL occasion to read stuff you were working and asking my advice.

The Alcatraz Horror film you were “ASKED” to write. What ever happened to that???

Stormy when you first started writing. (Dirty, filthy rotten bastard... or whatever you were calling it)

Stormy after Emerson wrote it you asked me to reed that one too.

And what was I getting out of it? NOTHING!!! Not a goddamn thing! I did it because we WERE friends as one-sided as a friendship can be, but I did it because you asked me, and that's what friends do.

I guess if I was 32, living at home, no car, no licence and no real bill to think of, I too could work as quick as you.

Try having a family, try living on your own, try paying bills doing what your doing now, you can't do it, thats why you live at home and live the way you do.

BTW what ever happened to the Thunder Mountain script you were writing??? You must have been bla blaing.
victorpeceno's picture

Peace

wow

Brad you have all my respect

is hard working like independent filmmakers

we have to support each other

Ezequiel's picture

HAHA

Alcatraz script. It was a treatment. I was done with my job on that. I was never hired to write the script. Only to develop. Business. You know? Maybe you don't.

You read stormy (or back then, dirty rotten filthy bastards) cause you were supposed to be one of the producers. of course, you blah'd out.

Big Thunder? What? Oh that's right, I remember telling you that wanted to go pitch that to Disney. I decided not to because of the experience I had with Pirates of The Caribbean.

Yes everyone, I am 32 and living at home. Know why? cause I spend all of my money on equipment and going out way too much huntin' down girls. And to be honest with you all, I have no desire to leave my beautiful house to go live in an apartment. I get to see my parents every day. I have a pool. A nice little loft. my room looks like a scene from Disney's Haunted Mansion ride. It is also my rad ass little editing suite. And I don't want a girlfriend. So I don't have to worry about bangin' in my parents house. I slip the tongue at their place and come home.

And yes my friends, that is right. I do have all the time in the world because I don't have kids and a family. I planned my life this way SO THAT I COULD DO EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING POSSIBLE TO WORK IN HOLLYWOOD.

While you're worrying about your family, I'm in beverly hills having lunch meetings for potential movie deals. See. Like the joker said "it's all part of the plan"

And come on Brad, everyone knows that I don't blah. I make mistakes. But I don't blah. But whatever. Ask Big Sugar later. He's working for a big time producer right now. something I do for people that prove themselves worthy from time to time. But hell, you don't need me, you've got how many films in development?

And since you're looking for me to throw my balls around. Yeah. I found Marco representation. ahem...when Brad was part of Stormy, we went on for like two months trying to pull it together. He didn't do anything. He was out.

Producer Brian Ochab then came aboard, and within two weeks put it together.

any more to say? or do I need to say more?

haha

I'll say it again. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. here, I'll even say it spanish:

Para de comer kaka

I'll say it in ebonics too:

Bitch. Get' yo' ass in check and get dat walk on da talk"

I'll even say it like Davonie:

Da nits bilz cuz yuz not da blaz in the chaz wit dat.

I'll even say John Meredith:

At least I had my film at a gay film festival.

And for the finale. I'll say it like Dan Gadberry:

......

MY LIFE WITH MYSELF

Being self aware of yourself is the key. Knowing exactly who you are and what you're about is so important. Learn from mistakes and knowledge becomes powerful.

Brad isn't self aware yet.

THE SHOE IN WITH THE RIGHT FOOT FIRST

Big Sugar starts his first day working with Miss Tova Laiter today! the woman who broke me into the movie business and taught me everything about it. Now big sugar is there.

And watch. In less than two weeks, you'll see how much he has learned and how much knowledge he will have about that little town called Hollywood. I can't wait to read his next post re: this journey he is about to embark on.

I wish you the best Matt. I really do. It's all up to you now. Follow your heart man. Work hard. All you have to do is be there and absorb and drive that motherfucker--put that peddle to the metal and just go!

And you know that Marco and I are here for you whenever you need us. I respect you so much for doing what you're doing.

And you know that all the captains are here for you also. Well, at least all the ones that are still captains. I have to list the captains once more so that everyone knows who the real deals are.

Captain Dracula Peceno

Captain Lady Parker

Captain Young Blood Morrisey

Captain Lion Heart Marco Leon

Captain Ezequiel Bladestorm

Captain Skull David Xarach

Captain Guns Turzman

Captain Boo Peter Ross

and of course, our very own luchador who is a captain in his own right

Espektro. Hector Bustamante who I have so much respect for

If all of you aspiring filmmakers would just take one second to listen to what we all have to say, you might get somewhere.

But like I said, I'm pretty much exhausted with some of you. John Meredith doesn't listen or study. Brad has proven himself over and over and over to just blah blah blah.

I'm tired of it. But I don't wish you any wrong. Best of luck to you in whatever your endeavors are.

I agree with everything except one thing:

BigSugar, what you said is pretty poignant stuff, and it made me feel proud of doing what i'm doing, and it made a lot of things from last week worth it, I really appreciate man. I just disagree with the part where you said you're a bad writer. My friend, I wouldn't be trying to help you if you were a bad writer! You're good! You just need mechanics man, kinda like a natural musician who plays the piano with all the wrong fingers or something, but he has the innate talent and is just a matter of technique.

And here's another thought for you: for all I've been preaching about writing and story and stuff like that.... very soon, I'd say, within a couple months... you'll be teaching me about business and how hollywood works, because of your internship with Tova. And that's the circle of life my friend, as Simba would put it, we all help one another with the things we have the other dont :)

Not to mention, we're gonna write some screenplays together and you'll take the meetings for me while I'm not yet in LA. Heheheh!

Its all part of the plan, man :)

And......... .. about Gadberry. I was hurt too. Pissed. Dissapointed, everything negative you can imagine, but you know what.... after a night of bad sleep and waking up this morning to news of hurricane Ike... it kinda goes away. I'm over it. I'm cool again. I feel fine again. We just get back up and keep on runnin' man. A slight fall, but nothing we can't recover from. We're gonna be just fine man, and wow, did I GRIN imagining that thing you said about our names in the big screen. And the Wendy's uniform bit, that was a huge zinger. See, you ARE a writer, that was good stuff! We'll get there dude :)

I'll send you an email soon about outline stuff from the thing we worked on a couple nights ago.

Take care! :)
