IT is just a little rough right now. And yes the title is done like that as an hommage to the cheesey horror films of the1970's

Animating RUDOLF

Hey people, I just figured I'd share this little image I made for RUDOLF (that sick short I wrote for VOAT, which you can read here, and consequently lose your faith in humanity: http://www.karmacritic.com/node/2450 ) . I'm playing with a really cool software called Toon Boom Studio 4, and it took me all of three hours to kinda learn the basics, which is all I need to create Rudolf. I got all my 3d models and screenshots, and all of the audio, voices, etc... its just a matter of animation now, I hope. Lets see.

Here's a little demo of what this software can do. I'm cautiously optimistic :)

P.S. Its likely the finished product wont look at all like this image... I'm limited by "cutout style" animation to never change too much the angle of my characters, but we'll see what can I get away with. We'll see :)

Let me know what you guys think. I'll have the second half done next weekend but wanted to get some input from you guys on this. I know I need to make some color adjustments in a couple of places too.

VOAT: New Game Plan

Alright, I thank everyone for their feedback in my previous "game changer" post.

I consulted with the pillow (who sounded a lot like Billy Dee Williams ("Family Guy" joke, if you don't get it you don't get it)) and here's the new game changer proposal:

We're going with a modified version of Plan B.

We're chucking out the door the "compare side by side" angle, and going instead for a "CREEPSHOW" angle, alas, KARMACREEPER 2008.

Technically its still "Variations on a Theme", where by "theme" we mean "horror-comedy" and/or "horrror".

Now, everyone who completes their short before May 15th, shall get DOUBLE share. Everyone else who completes after, or already had another short lying around before VOAT, gets SINGLE share.

The drop-dead deadline for all shorts shall be AUGUST 15th, thats a LOT of time, I think, but it still gives us a couple months for replication and distribution, and we'd try to release this product on OCT 31st, get it? KarmaCREEPER, Oct 31st? Good :)

Now, here's the lineup in no particular order, and my comments, one by one:

HELLION by Veenotph: on schedule and likely to win double share.
GETTING A HEAD IN THE BUSINESS by cpparker: on schedule and likely to win double share.
HOUSE OF SMOKING GUNS by captains Peceno and Xarach: on schedule and likely to win double share.
RUDOLF by yours truly: on schedule and likely to win double share.
CAMP MACHETE by captains Peceno and Xarach: I'd love for you guys to do this even if its as late as August, and for single share.
SOUVERNIR by BrendanMorrisey: man, would you agree to knock this out by August and get single share?
UNWRITTEN LAW, LAND OF WITCHES: EZ would you agree to put these (the 5 min versions) in the DVD for single shares?
ACES HIGH: Brian Ochab, same question?
UNWRITTEN LAW II: Tommy, would you agree to put this on the DVD for single share? (double if you're done by May 15th!)
CAMERA GUY by moi: unless someone thinks it utterly sucks (and please tell me if you think so) I'd love to have this on the DVD for single share.
[anything cool] by OuchMouth: OuchMouth, could you have a new horror-comedy short done by August? You get single share :)
CUTTING LOSE by SunnyDayJazz: Yeah!

Did I forget anyone? Brain is soft in the mornings, you gotta forgive me, just point it out in the comments. How does this sound? 12 shorts in a DVD, plus extras (interviews, scripts) sounds like something -I- would buy, in the horror-comedy genre.

We'll get some sort of creepy host to present the shorts one by one, kinda like TALES FROM THE CRYPT, and the baby is out on Halloween. Eric still gets 10% for DVD and administrative services, and certainly, we still need to figure out replication, marketing and distribution.... but we'll cross those bridges when we get there, sweaty, exhausted and bitter of life, around September.

So there you go. The effort placed into getting things done by May 15th pays off, but everyone still gets a chance to contribute something cool.

How does this sound?

Hey people!

Well, the original plan was as follows (names in no particular order):

CAMP MACHETE: Dxarach and MelioraEric

HELLION: OuchMouth and Veenotph

GETTING A HEAD IN THE BUSINESS: Cpparker and VictorPeceno

RUDOLF: BrendanMorrisey and moi.

Now, you noticed I bolded some names up there, those are the people that I know are working to make the film a reality. It doesnt mean the ones not underlined arent, it just means I havent seen blog posts about it, or the like.

So we have two choices at this point:

Choice A: Do we continue with the original plan, and count on the movies not currently bolded getting made, then release the DVD with 4 pairs of shorts?

Choice B: Or, do we throw away the "variations on a theme" idea, and simply make "The KarmaCritic DVD 2008", and throw other shorts in there, maybe HOUSE OF SMOKING GUNS, UNWRITTEN LAW (I and II), LAND OF THE WITCHES, CUTTING LOOSE, CAMERA GUY, SOUVERNIR, THE CALL, etc?

Pros of choice A is well, its the plan!

Pros of choice B is that it seems more "doable", though I could be wrong.

Another major difference: if we go with choice B, we basically chuck away the contest angle and just split profits equitatively per script/short.

I dont think one option would inherently have more sales than another, its just in how we market it. (OR, if option B has a shitload of shorts, then that may be more attractive to potential customers. Maybe). It also brings new problems: how do we determine if a short is good enough to make it into the DVD?

What do you think people?

I'd like to hear from Steve and Christine, since they have put effort in doing their part, and I feel queasy throwing a game-changer at you guys, it doesnt feel fair; and yet on the other hand, it feels even more unfair to not have a DVD at all, or one that has just four shorts in it.

And I'd like to hear from OuchMouth, Brendan, Peceno, and Dxarach, because if you guys tell us we'll definitely have the original VOAT assignment from you, then we don't need a game-changer after all and we just continue with option A.

So lets chat people, our ultimate goal is to get a DVD out there and make some money :)

You should see the looks I've been getting searching for the "e-collar" for the film Hellion ("Dog Cone" in the script.)

Sure I can try and explain it is for a short film about zombies, but no one is buying it. I just get the long drawn out "Uh- huh" and the slow nod of the head. Yes, several shops, because one place has it for $30 (you have got to be kidding me) one place had it for $23, and I would have bought that one, because it had nice metal snaps, but the plastic was cloudy. So, I finally found one at Petland discount, for $16.99

Of course the best look was from the UPS guy, who delivered the cheerleader outfit - got to work those horror film stereo types - such a grin that guy gave. My wife (holding our two month old) exclaiming that it wasn't for us. Not that he believed her.

Make a movie, it is a wholesome occupation.
