Here is another teaser for Hellion, this is a prolog. The delightful Elisabeth Carlton was excellent, and really into the idea. Great scream.

IT is just a little rough right now. And yes the title is done like that as an hommage to the cheesey horror films of the1970's

I have to thank my sister and her husband, and their kids. I took over their house for a day - and need another half day - They even bought the catering for cast and crew, and second meal, and got the coffee in the morning. Let me tell you, I have some really great family.

Cast and Crew were amazing, great to work with. Now in "blogging" this is the first time I've directed a film where I had a camera operator (I still was the D.P. as well.) It was interesting. I hate the monitor, I really do. I think it just gets in the way, but it is such a seductive tool. Sometimes it makes sense to watch the take through the monitor (like when the camera was low and on the floor, but I really do think it gets in the way. Fine for framing and checking after, but really the director needs to be watching his actors act. Well, it is just something new to work on.

Well, so what a joy, this filmmaking.

Keep the budget down, so I'm doing too many things.

Just finsihed shopping for the craft service for the crew. $62 bucks for a day and a half of shooting. Not bad, but still, money, money, money.

Tonight, I bring the gear to Monday's location, except for what I need for tomorrow's shoot. Do a quick wardrobe fitting on the zombie, and no doubt will be sewing.modifying the darling little boys costume tonight - I'm pretty nifty with a sewing machine.

We shoot tomorrow - Sunay April 13, and it is my 42nd Birthday.

"Well, it isn't for a dog."

You should see the looks I've been getting searching for the "e-collar" for the film Hellion ("Dog Cone" in the script.)

Sure I can try and explain it is for a short film about zombies, but no one is buying it. I just get the long drawn out "Uh- huh" and the slow nod of the head. Yes, several shops, because one place has it for $30 (you have got to be kidding me) one place had it for $23, and I would have bought that one, because it had nice metal snaps, but the plastic was cloudy. So, I finally found one at Petland discount, for $16.99

Of course the best look was from the UPS guy, who delivered the cheerleader outfit - got to work those horror film stereo types - such a grin that guy gave. My wife (holding our two month old) exclaiming that it wasn't for us. Not that he believed her.

Make a movie, it is a wholesome occupation.

Hellion Make-up test

With photography a week away, it is time to get cooking. The cast is set, locations secured, catering figured. Crew, props, wardrobe, and make up need to be locked down.

Below are a few photos from the make-up test. Mostly we wanted to make sure the actor isn't allergic to any of the make-up. For a 9 year old, he was remarkably calm..
