Congratulations to Will Bigham on winning the $1 million contract. His win gives me hope that good guys can indeed finish first. He was my fav of the finalists from the beginning and remained my fav to the end. Yes, the process was flawed, but what in life isn't? I think he is the best fit for Dream Works and I sincerely wish him well.

Zach Will Be Fine

I'm sure that Zach will be fine. He has a lot of talent and can make it without any more "help" from the OTL people. I know that I would go see any movie that he directed.

From the time that Zach was told to leave OTL their ratings have sagged even more toward the dumpster. God am I so glad that I was not chosen to be on that crappy show. All that they put those filmakers through. I can't see them doing a second season of this.

I have taped every episode of the show from the start as a reminder to myself to be more careful in the future of what I get involved in.

Here's the saddest part about OTL and Project Greenlight; rather than underlining the fact that there are passionate people the world over doing anything and everything they can to make movies, they undermined that fact. Maybe it's just me, but I'll kick Pete Jones' ass if I ever run into him, if for no ther reason than I really do want to see him cry. Pissed all over a golden chance. And I'll be honest, he's the reason I didn't give a damn about OTL, nor was I surprised that it imploded (and not for nothing, but that's how bad I think reality T.V. is; a show about film making and I never watched one episode). Man, it's hard as hell tp put up with the snickering and the backhanded comments when you're making a film with no budget, no actors and no idea what's going on, but those bastards made it that much harder in that now it's a joke. "Dude, they gave that guy a million dollars and look at the crap he turned out!" This I'm hearing all the time. From a guy flipping burgers at the local Dairy Queen. Give me a break. We have to all suffer indignities for our art, but nowdays it seems like folks who should be helping are doing their damndest to pile on. So to the guys whi kicked this up, thanks from the bottom of my heart for the port in a storm. I can't speak for another soul here, but I hope we can band together and show people that there is an alternative to the schmucks they've seen on the tube. Y'all have a nice night.

OTL Tonight: Action without Action

Saw my first OTL tonight. Supposedly, they were going to be directing and presenting the contestant's action films. I say supposedly because obviously there was a misunderstanding since the contestants delivered, almost without exception, comedies. Apparently, 'action' means that someone, somewhere in the film twitched an eyelash.

And, of course, the judges ate it up, from the mildly clever to the completely inept (skateboards?!).

Jeez.

You know, Google kinda deserves the success it has. I like google lately. Thanks to Victor's very generous contribution, we can afford to mount a month-long adwords campaign for SUBLIM, and lately I've started using Google Analytics to track usage of the site. It rules peoples. But my favorite part is when I search for "karmacritic".

I recommend reading the other mysteries too, they're fun. In fact, I'm kinda involved in the one about 1-18-8 too, as is most of AICN :)

Hollywood and OTL

I am a spiritual counselor and a lightworker. Some of us are here to change the systems that are no longer working, in other words, these systems encompass more dark that light. Hollywood embodies much of the dark - lying, cheating, stealing, backstabbing is the norm, etc. Things and people in Hollywood are starting to change towards the light (example: Angelina Jolie and George Clooney working on humanitarian projects). I believe there is a reason for everything.

It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago what this show and website might be all about, how Hollywood needs to change and OTL is actually helping to do this. Project Greenlight was an attempt to help filmmakers get passed the Hollywood regime, but Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did not have enough clout. And now we have OTL with two giants in the industry behind it. Thousand of filmmakers were hopeful that Spielberg was going to do it differently, but everything filmmakers dislike about the business was now in their faces and they got mad. But this is not just another reality show where people go away with their tails between their legs when they don't win. YOU GUYS ARE FILMMAKERS! You have a voice beyond this show. This show will make you want to succeed "in spite of" and maybe ...just maybe treat your other filmmaker brothers and sisters with more compassion and respect. It starts with each one of us...then Hollywood will change.

Think back on what it took for each of you to make changes in your lives, you must know that most change occurs after much pain and anger. OTL is the archetype of Hollywood. Everything bad about the website and this show is also what is wrong with Hollywood. As filmmakers, we need to see that the way of Hollywood is unacceptable and not buy into it.

KarmaCritic is your new beginning. There really is no accident that Marco came up with that name. Most of the venting about OTL, I feel, is now over and it is time to move on to more positive adventures in filmmaking. Keep up the good work, filmmakers, doing what you love best. And let’s treat all as we would like to be treated.

I had made this back in film school. I think it's pretty cute. Just your typical romantic comedy...with a twist.

I couldnt be more grateful to Saint Knowles for starting this cascade of events, although it would have been possible without all the effort, and... dare I say.. heart... that all of you guys have been putting in here in KC since we started in April. The seeds are starting to sprout people. I couldnt be happier, thank you all!

Did it work? no. Why? Because its gone. Deleted. And no one would know the better if it wasnt for this screenshot. I dont think anyone is surprised at this at this point.

In KC we delete personal attacks. In OTL, they delete corporate ones. I think that says it all.
